Yes, but I keep encountering conflicting results about whether I need to use firewire or s-video out.
I know my camera does not support firewire, I am pretty sure I need a video capture card or a tv tuner, not sure which one though, I need something I can plug the end of the A/V cables into. -
Well this is what I did back at work. We had macs though. I hooked up the camcorder to the mac via firewire, let the tape play and used one of those programs that comes with a mac (I think it was iDVD, I'm not even sure
) and it just grabbed it - it was freaking big in filesize tho; like 9GB for a full tape. It was later compressed to a DVD.
EDIT:
Well if your camera doesn't support firewire, then you could get those 1/8" thingy that has video and L and R audio - Radioshucks sell 'em for an uber expensive $20 and you'll prolly get them for $10 somewhere else. Anyway, use that or S-video. I don't think it should really matter. You're right - you'll probably need a TV Tuner of some sort so that it accepts signals from other devices. -
Get a DVD recorder. A lot less hassle than a capture card.

It depends on how much you want to spend to digitize your tapes. Any price range and what format/quality would you like?
