I have owned 2 Razer mice and both failed in a 6 month time period after my warranty expired...The 1st was a Copperhead that would just stop working within an hour of turning the computer on, and now my Orochi is randomly disconnecting from my laptop and single click get registered as double clicks.. I need a new wireless gaming mouse. I was thinking about the Sidewinder X8; what else is there on the marketplace?
-
Logitech G700 or Razer Mam.. err no just Logitech G700, i doubt that will fail you like Razer did. The Copperhead did have known clicking problems though. As for the Orochi, it was the worst mouse i ever bought.
The logitech G700 is always recommended as the best wireless gaming mouse here on NBR. Its wireless receiver allows for 2.4ghz lagfree gaming at 1000hz polling rate and it comes with plenty of programmable buttons. you can go though this thread to help you with the decision in picking a wireless gaming mouse Best Wireless Gaming Mouse?
Oh and credits to Kent for posting this on NBR, G700 for $57
The Mamba retails at $130 -
My Mamba also died from almost nothing, but I have had trusted brands die on me, with light use too(not gaming mouse related).
If I had to buy a mouse today I would get a RAT 7 or RAT 9. It looks to be the most comfortable, fun, unique, weird, cool looking mouse out there. I love the idea behind it, but have never held it. That's the one I want.
As for Razer, I am still looking at their ultimate blackwidow keyboard. There are very mechanical backlighting keyboard. I saw one from DAS but that was ugly. -

My Orochi was defective also. I had a bit of trouble returning it. They wanted me to pay shipping and that sort of upset me.
Mine was defective @ start so it should have been considered DOA and a free return.
My Razer Black Widow Ultimate was also defective
So yeah I have not had a good experience with Razer products.
Still I did get a new Orochi and its my favorite bluetooth mouse, but I think they sent me a refurbished one because it has a strange texture that the old one did not that kind of annoys me.
I had a Mamba and I think there was nothing really wrong with it, just didnt like having to use the charging dock for wireless and how big/heavy the mouse felt. -
I've had a Razer DeathAdder for quite a little while now and it has worked *superbly*, easily the best mouse (gaming or otherwise) in terms of comfort and responsiveness that I've ever owned. I can see why someone would get frustrated with them, especially since they play up that silly GAMING aesthetic.

Ive heard similar things. My friend bought a razer mamba or whatever the best gaming mouse they have is for around a $100 price point last summer. This year he told me it died a few months out of warranty. It sucks, this is why i prefer logitech because they give you a pretty long warranty and send you a replacement unit no questions asked.

Talk about bad luck >_<
I've been fortunate enough to have virtually no trouble with any of my Razer stuff, from my original 2007 DeathAdder (which was originally a display model, currently on its third owner and still running) to my Mamba, which I bought refurbished for half-price with only a 90 day warranty, and it's over a year old now. The only thing I've had to replace was my Carcharias headset, which they replaced under warranty (with free shipping, not sure what happened with your case, Vicious), and has been fine ever since.
On the other hand, I've also had a Logitech Precision gaming headset fall apart on me barely a couple months after I bought it, and I didn't even bother with a warranty replacement because it was so shoddily built.
My point is, you can get a lemon from any manufacturer. In any case, I hope whatever you get next works out for you. -

But yes, I've never had good luck with Razer products. They feel cheap for the price, and their software has always had some annoying quirk about it, whether it wouldn't load at startup, crash, or not save settings. This is over the course of many years and several pieces of hardware, including the Orochi, Imperator, Deathadder, and all the way back to the original Boomslang.
I'll stick with Logitech. In 10+ years of using their stuff, I've only had two products require service. Both were replaced with no hassle and at no cost. -
Never had any problems with any Logitech products. Bought a Razer mouse once and it failed once, exchanged with warranty, and failed again. Just didn't want to bother with constant exchanges.
MX518 is best wired mouse value around IMHO. I still have one over three years old and it has been used A LOT. -

Been a long-time Logitech user hear, Logitech G500 and now G9x. The G500 kicked the bucket after about 4 years of heavy gaming use, I use the G9x now no problem. I've always thought that Razer has tried to build this "aura" surrounding their products when in reality they really aren't all that great in terms of quality/price/performance.
-
I think Razer stuff is comfortable, and decent performance, but nothing special. It's just that from "word of mouth" they tend to fail more often than any other brands. Maybe people just drive them harder. I dunno. But I do know my VX Nano and MX518 have proven themselves as I own three of each, lol. One of each is packed away in case one breaks, because always afraid they will stop production of them.

Also consider SteelSeries' lineup of gaming mice. The Xai is their top-of-the-line laser gaming model, retails around $90; they sell one with lesser technology but the same exterior for around half the price.
Razer, yes, they do depend a lot on marketing and brand image to sell their products. Generally they make good quality products. There aren't any hard statistics on failure rates. OP, based on your experience there's definitely no sense in staying with them ... -
While there are no hard statistics it used to be well known in the gaming community that Razer designed good mice for gaming.....temporarily.
They used to say there was a reason it was called the deathadder, not the killadder
Personally I have had lots of different mice, from various companies etc and in the end they all performed great, I wouldn't gaming mouse manufacturer is better than the other, for me it boiled down to which one felt the best in my hand and to me the design of the mx518 beat my razer mice by a long shot.
When that mouse fails I will probably end up with another mx518 or maybe the g500.
One problem with buying some of the mice online imo is that you can't walk into a store and feel it and at one point I had two gaming mice that I had used for 5 mins and just never liked how they felt. -
all my razer products been great and still doing great. (orochi and mamba)
-
I've had a bunch of Razer & Logitech products. My Orochi has not had any real issues. I had a G700 and although it was a great mouse as far as usability it's battery life sucked. I would kill the battery in one session of playing Rift (about 5-8 hours).
-
No, luck definitely doesn't have anything to do with this at all. -
i returned my first Razer naga on day 2 both buttons failed.

You had your feel-good, " OMG I <3 RAZER!" thread awhile back, so there's no need to come in here and pick fights because you can't take a little (righteous) Razer criticism. -
I have owned 3 razer products for half a year and have never had problem with any of them, but do I post around on forums telling everybody they work? No I don't incase you couldn't figure out the answer -
1. Having an opinion that differs from yours = trolling, and
2. It's off topic to post about the quality of Razer products in a thread that discusses (among other things) the quality of Razer products.
The essence of all your arguments summed up in a photo:

Relax people, relax.
I'll be happy to report that both my Logitech and Razer products operate to their capacity. Other than my MX510 that got squished during a trans-Atlantic flight. -
same with johnny t, chill guys
my logi and razer product are all fully function havent had a problem with them yet. and if they can get along and work together than u guy can too.... -
Was the Internet denizens always this quick to start fight? It seems like as time goes by people just get faster at picking sides and arguing... On another note. I'm getting the G700 thanks to all who helped.
