    You could also just use the cable that's provided (6-channel direct cable) and the headphone output on your laptop. Just use the green line on the 6 channel direct cable. This is what I do with my laptop and the z680s. I need a new speaker set soon....

    Oh I'd get the z5500 easily....if I had money :( I'm really strapped for cash at the moment. My z680s aren't completely dead, but there's a ton of background hiss. It's bad enough that it interferes with whatever I'm listening to. By the way, is there any background hiss with the z5500s?

    I own a set of z5500 :D

    The only thing you need to know that hasn't been said is that be prepared to annoy your neighbors. Bass is POWERFUL with this setup.

    You'll see what I mean.

    That is the exact cable I have, much better to run these speakers with opitcal vs the analog connections. You'll love the speakers, I had Z680's when they first came out and have had my 5500's for 2 years now and they are still pounding strong
