I need a mouse for designer. I will be using AutoCad and 3dsMAX intensively; maybe a little MAYA. Optical or Laser? Wired or Wireless? Buttons and ball?

If you do however get a wireless mouse, the Microsoft Brand of wireless lasts long, i swapped my MS notebook 6000 wireless battery with a rechargeable and works perfect. A regular duracell AA will lasts 6 months is the claim on it though. However AutoCad and such may have you using the mouse for prolonged periods, The MS brand is smaller in size, so It might not be ergonomic for your hand.

I have always had logitech mice and i love them, couldn't go wrong with a microsoft either. For 3dsMax you might enjoy using the mx1000. I have used that mouse in Maya not so much 3dsmax but i found its many buttons and accuracy very nice. I have no opinion on the wireless vs. wired arguement to me it worked perfectly fine. Currently I am using a G5 but have not tried any 3d programs with it.

The Logitech G7 mouse is the best mouse I've ever used. Being wireless I expected a lag or a decrease in performance, but I haven't seen any at all. I game with it and use it in photoshop without any problems. The rechargeable batteries will only last about a day, but it comes with two so you always have one charged and ready to go.

I also really enjoy my Logitech G7. It may not be a great fit for your work needs though. A wired G5 might work nicely.

I like both Logitech and Microsoft mouse designs. I think the "taller" Microsoft fits my hand a little better than the "sleeker/lower profile" Logitech design though.
