I'm going to college in the fall and I just received my Dell 1520 (15.4"), I'm planning on leaving the desktop at home and being the gamer I am I want to use my Dell for gaming in the dorm.

So I figured I need either a stand or a laptop cooler (maybe a combo?). And since this is my first laptop I don't know much about finding something of quality. Also, I plan on bringing a monitor, keyboard and a mouse to hook up to my laptop to turn it into a kind of portable desktop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It really won't be necessary for you to use a cooler on a brand new notebook. The 1520 is capable of handling heat on its own (unless you overclock the cpu/gpu). Use HD Tune to check your notebook temps, and unless they are unusually high, you won't need to worry about overheating issues. Just make sure you don't block the vents.

Zalman cooling pad is a popular choice here on NBR. I personally am using a generic brand cooler purchased on ebay for $12 and its fairly decent.

I bought a Zalman, but that was because i had a coupon. Don't have it yet, so i can't tell you if it is worth it to pay that much more. But i do know that the Zalman is a great cooler.
