I am looking to purchase the HP HDX 18t laptop with the following specs:

    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    • Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.80GHz)
    • 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - For 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
    • 1TB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (500GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M - For DDR3 Memory
    • 18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
    • Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    • Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
    • Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth

Does anyone know how I can find out what the picture quality is(megapixels) on the integrated webcam?

    Thank you.

There is a trend I've noticed between integrated webcams in notebooks... they all suck. Hard. Between the 5 laptops I've owned in 18 months, None of them had respectable webcams.

I would not base any laptop purchase decisions solely on the quality of the integrated webcam.

I believe it has the same webcam as the dv5t - Chaz took a sample shot in his review of the dv5t here. I'm guessing it will be a 1.3MP camera.

There is another thing you may want to consider - having a xMP camera doesn't help you a lot if you hven't got an internet connection to support the data volume you want to send.
This would result in a jumpy picture - if not other problems.

Also, generally pictures in IM applications are small.

1.3MP cameras tend to be common, especially as HP's "standard" webcam. But there are 2.0MP webcams out there which offer some pretty good quality (what can you expect from a miniaturized camera); you just have to look harder.

Some are still 0.3MP which is sad.

Thank you for all your replies.

-I'm not basing my decision on webcam quality, I was simply asking out of curiosity really, I've always wondered. Just going by the price of this laptop I was hoping the quality would be above average.
-It's not my parents I'm planning to call...
-My internet connection here on campus is lightening fast.
-And I guess there's not much noticeable difference between 1.3MP and 2.0MP, just wanted to make sure it wasn't absolute crap.

    Thanks a lot.

overall which laptop do you think offers the best webcam quality? Besides Macbook.

I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo 3000 n500 with it's integrated 1.3 mp webcam and I'm really curios to know how its webcam quality is when used with applications like Yahoo Messenger or Skype

I think MSN or Skype only support 480*320 (or something like that - may have changes though, or may be less)

I have a Dell Studio 15 with 2.0MP integrated webcam. It's okay, but at higher resolutions the picture gets really choppy.

I got 2.0 Mpixel integrated webcam aswell and it's not top-notch, but a good quality still - it's sufficient for talking thru' skype and other programs and integrated webcam always has the huge advantage .... you dont't have to attach the damn cam device every time you want to video chat
