Right now I have a desktop at home, and I'm planning on buying a 15" laptop within the next 3 months. I'd like to buy a new 20-22" widescreen monitor that I can have hooked up to my desktop, and then when I go away to college be able to hook up my laptop to it. (I'll be dorming so I'll leave the desktop at home). This monitor would most likely be used for movie watching, gaming, and other basic tasks. I have my eye on the Samsung 226bw, does anyone know how this monitor is? thanks.

Samsung makes very good monitors. I don't know about that one, but my 214t is the best monitor I've ever used.

I have looked at it, a very nice monitor. There are 2 or 3 other threads talking about it in the last few days. Everyone that has one only has good things to say, except Imark said something about the color.

I agree, Samsung makes excellent monitors. I've had mine for about 4 years, and I've had no problems with it whatsoever.

The Dell E228WFP is an option to consider.

    Yup yup, Circa is right.

First off, check out this thread, I talked a lot about the 226BW in it after I got it.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=106999&highlight=samsung+226bw

As for color, my blacks are kind of goofy in some games. It may be an 8800GTX issue though too, so I am not sure. What it comes down to is since it is a TN panel, it is not true 8 bit color. If you are going serious about photo/video editing, you should get an S-IPS panel.

The monitor is great for gaming, and that was my main purpose for getting it. Ghosting is not an issue.

With that said, I have had a great experience with the monitor. I have even though of picking up a second one I like it so much.

If you have any further questions, feel free to let me know. :)
