The default tracking speed of my NP5793's trackpad is pretty slow, so I have the windows pointer speed setting turned up pretty high. All well and good.

Today I plugged in a logitech wireless external mouse, and the pointer was zipping all over the screen. I didn't want to mess with my control panel setting, so I downloaded logitech's software for the mouse, and sure enough it came with its own pointer speed setting. Since the mouse responded to settings in both the windows control panel and and the logitech control panel, but the trackpad only responds to settings from windows, i set the windows speed nice and high (for the track pad), and the logitech speed low (to compensate for the speedy mouse). still with me?

This made it so that both the trackpad and the mouse moved the pointer at a speed i was comfortable with. Here's the problem: upon rebooting the computer, it became clear that the logitech software is somehow interfering with the windows control panel. every time the machine restarts, the windows pointer speed setting reverts to its default speed, making the trackpad too slow. No matter how many times I change it back, as long as logitech's software is installed, it weirdly reverts upon start up every time.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

Great find. I'll mess around with some of the suggestions in that thread. Thanks.

EDIT: looks like problem solved. It seems that whenever setpoint (the logitech software) was set to start with windows, it caused the windows pointer speed to revert to default...some sort of driver conflict.

By telling setpoint not to start with windows, the windows settings remain intact. The setpoint speed also remains intact, even though it doesn't automatically start. So basically, i can have both pointer speed settings where I want them..without any annoying resets. Here, have some rep!
