    HI,
I have ordered a DELL XPS M1530 Laptop, and wish to have the Creative SBS 5.1 Channel speaker system. I was wondering if this model is compatible with 5.1 system. I have also included a Sound Blaster Card in the configuration of the laptop.

    Well,
Is this really needed or the M1530 will be compatible? I checked the specification, in which the "Audio" section had this:

    Audio type
    5.1 channel High Definition Audio

So, by this I got a feeling that it is compatible. Can you please confirm this?

    Manoj.

The integrated solution from Sigmatel does allow for 5.1 surround sound systems to be utilized. You just have to go to the Control Panel and choose the Sigmatel option. Then, click on the headphone port picture and where it says Headphone Connected, you can switch it to 5.1 surround sound system. I haven't tested this yet, but I'll try it tomorrow with my 5.1 speakers.

Well, I just tried plugging in my speakers but it fails to provide 5.1 surround sound. The best I could do was 4 speakers, which were the front and rear speakers. However, something is wrong with my speakers as they need to be regrounded or something because if I even touch the wire or the aluminum part of the 1530, it causes a buzzing. So, could someone else try.

I have ruled out the port malfunction by plugging in a pair of headphones and it works.

Try going into the Sound tab in control panel and choosing speaker volume. I can't really try it on Vista but it works on XP.
