I am trying to determine if the 16GB flash drives are a good buy right now. I was looking at the 16Gb Corsair Voyager(not GT, regular). The prices have come down like crazy. Aren't these drives slow? Are they worth it? Or is it better to stick with the 4 or 8 GB ones? Your thought please. Thanks.

I'm pretty p*** off with corsair at the moment. Their old GTs used to be very fast, however to make more money out of us by decreasing manufacturing costs, they decided to switch most of their entire range to mlc. I think the smaller capacity ones might still be slc. But i recommend any of the xporter xt range of USBs.

Why would you need a 16g one? Just get a 4 GB on...there is one at newegg for 15 bucks flat, free shipping right now.

The answer to this depends on what you need it for. What will you be putting on the drive? Are you possibly ever going to use that much space? I have an 8GB flash drive with all kinds of things on it (documents, back-up drivers, pictures), and I still have about 6.8GB free space. I really find it hard to believe I'm ever going to use the full 8GB since I periodically clean out folders and rid them of files I don't need or haven't used in a while. Again, however, it just depends on you.

Speed is important to just about everyone on this board, and you're no different in that respect. When you're shopping for the drive, just look at the advertised transfer rate and such. That should give you a good idea of how fast it is. I'm sure you can find larger sizes that are just as fast as the smaller sizes. I hope this helps a little.

i think so... i'm going to be purchasing a 32 gig flash drive soon.

With all of the applications and back ups and files i have to carry around i'm already sporting 4 x 1gb, 6 x 2gb, and 1 x 8gb.

It would ahve been easier if they would have just bought me a pockey hard drive...but these are just SOOOO much more secure

So i'm getting a 32gig one to store everything with a bit of expandability left over (and i'm not willing to pay 200 for the 64gb one just yet)

Get a 32 GP Flash drive instead. The OCZ ATV one is pretty fast and rugged too.

Yes they're worth it... and now is as good a time as any to buy, given how much prices have dropped in recent months ;)

I was tempted enough by their new, lower prices, to treat myself to a larger capacity - not to mention substantially faster 32GB Patriot Xporter XT Boost ( Xtreme Transfer - 150x!)

I think Kingston is a good one, and 8GB should be more than enough.

if u dont want to 'commit' to higher capacity, get like a SDHC reader/USB stick and a 4-8GB SDHC card, so u can use it in ur camera and as a portable stick....
