OF COURSE other mice will work. The rep is trying to SELL.

but only Microsoft Mouse have the Instant Viewer feature guaranteed to work. Its 100x better than the flip3d in Vista, that looks good, but is not very useful.

    manzi,

I just bought a Microsoft optical mouse from Office Depot yesterday. I haven't tried it out yet, but a guy there told me that since Vista has all the backwards compatible mouse drivers, it should work. If you want to be sure, you can get a mouse that actually says Windows Vista Compatible on the box.

That Dell rep is a lying piece of garbage!!

Any mouse, be it PS/2 or USB will work on Vista just fine. For example, I'm using a G5 Laser mouse and as I recall the box didn't have a "Vista Compatible" logo on it. That lying, honorless rep was merely trying to sell you something. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that a Dell rep would openly lie to you like that. Dell probably even encourages it. Scum like that really annoy me...

i had a dell rep try to tell me that the reason my sound card was making funny noises was because my headphones were not vista compatible.

Thx for the info guys! The Dell reps are only money minded. They only offer good deals if you buy extras (which means they will get commision). I had one get me to buy 2gb of RAM saying that if i even just open up the laptop just to look at at, it will automatically void the warranty, therefore i should buy 2gb of RAM now rather than upgrading it myself.
