Is it okay to put a mouse through a USB extender or hub?

I have the NotePal U3 which has a USB return sort of thing so it doesn't take away a USB port. So I have the Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse attached to it, but since it's not directly into the USB port does it present problems?

I can't really feel a delay and the reporting rate is still 500Hz but I'm wondering if there are other side effects, like does it take power away from the cooler or if there side effects on the mouse.

    Thanks.

As long as its not some cheap china crud or like a usb 1.0 hub it should be fine.

It's a standard USB 2.0 extender from the cooler.

I'm wondering because the cooler is expected to take 450 mA at max fan speed, which is what I have it set as currently. Since the max USB 2.0 current output is 500mA i'm wondering if having the mouse also attached will have bad consequences.

It's weird because I had an XBOX 360 controller also plugged in there at one point which takes ~170 mA( so about 670 total current draw) but there wasn't anything abnormal.

No problems so far with my Logitech using that configuration. And my cooler is cheap!

Worst case, the mouse won't work or the cooler fans would spin slower. Risk of burning out the port is low (unless it's a cheap cooler) as it won't draw more than the 500mA spec, and the mobo "should" have safeties to prevent overload.

I've always used my mouse through a hub. Currently, it's through my Logitech Alto w/ Wireless Keyboard stand + hub, although before I had it connected to a USB 1.1 hub. No noticeable difference between either of these and directly plugged into my laptop.

The cooler should be fine, one of my friends has his mouse plugged into a similar USB-pass-through port.

In a past I've tried same thing - putting mouse into USB hub (mx518 in laptop cooler) and I could feel that delay very clearly!
