I just put my hard drive into the case (seagate sata 320 gb 3.5 inch hard drive) and formatted it. it formatted fine and now im backing up my computer to it, and well, it keeps making clicking noises when it switches to a different file its transferring. Is this normal? It doesnt sound damaging, every 3.5 inch hard drive ive had has always made this clicking noise, I just dont know if ive been lucky having them stay alive?

when it clicks the little light on the drive (metal gear box II) blinks like it is working. Is this normal?

Make sure it's defragmented, and check it with the Windows tools (right click on the drive, go to properties, then the Tools tab). If those all come up ok, I'd keep an eye on it. It could just be an electronic click because of the external case. Any chance you could throw it into a desktop computer temporarily and see if it does the same thing?

Its probably just hard drive noise, it seems as though every HDD that I've used makes a little bit of noise, some more than others. I've had HDD's that were louder than the fans in my PC and it never failed.

Yeah. If it's not a really loud "CLICK CLICK CLICK", it's just normal head movement, and some drives are just quieter than others. Since you don't have any issues with it, and a drive scan turns up no problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't be too worried. Keep in mind that a desktop drive doesn't have to be as quiet as a laptop drive, as they are designed to be in a bigger, more sound insulated environment. Most laptop drives click when they aren't covered (well, you can hear them then).
