I have a Dv5-1157ca and i was reading in another thread that the zalman nc2000 is the best cooler for the dv5.

1 question, do all models of dv5s have the same arrangement of plastic vents at the bottom? also, about how much temperature gain do dv5s have when used with a zalman?

also, any other coolers that work better than the zalman nc2000? thanks

I just posted this in the "notebook cooler" thread of today (Nov 13th), but I think it bears repeating, especially since the other post was "generic," and here, you're specifically asking about the dv5 series, which is what I have too. The Zalman NC2000 and the Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler got praises from other posters on the forum about a year ago, when I first bought my dv5t. Zalman is considered to be one of the best brands, and some version of this model is apparently still available. But as I mentioned in the other post, there are also other things to consider, like how noisy is the cooler, does it suck air in or blow air out, if you use it on your lap, is it reasonably comfortable, how heavy/bulky is it, what material is it made of, etc. Even though you can't check all of these issues out before hand, I would go to a retail store like Best Buy (or whichever you choose) and take a look at some coolers in person. Then you can buy something on line, but at least, hopefully, before that you will have had a chance to really get a look at it.

I'm too lazy to detail... I made a thread about this about a year ago. the Zalman NC2000 isn't optimal for the dv5t since the vents are in different areas. If you were to put the dv5t on top of the NC2000, the zalman wouldn't be blowing into the dv5t's vents since it's in the top left while the nc2000 blows air from bottom to half of the top. Unless you want to put your laptop in an odd position on the cooler, look for something else. I had suggested the notepal infinite from coolermaster before because of the vent placement, but i never tested that myself.

thanks for the replies guys, but you were mentioning all the other options, such as noise level, comfortable, heavy/bulky, material, i don't care about any feature of a notebook cooler except that it cools my laptop by a significant amount and it lasts long enough
