If I buy a Dell Latitude D620, is the modular bay battery worth $119? I do not think I am going to need long battery life, but this will be my first laptop. The follow numbers are given with bluetooth and wireless connections on. According to the review on Notebook Review, the battery life extends from 3 hours and 30 minutes with just the 9-cell battery to 6-7 hours with the 9-cell and 6-cell modular battery. I know my laptop will not have the same battery life because this model did not have the optional video card and I do not want bluetooth. I do not mind the extra weight of the battery, but $119 is a steep price. My question: Is the modular bay battery worth $119?

    I appreciate your vote. :spinny:

If you don't need long battery life, then no, it's not worth it. You won't ever need 6-7 hours battery life in a non-business position, unless you always take it to Starbucks to write the next big romance novel ;) But you'd need a Mac to be trendy enough to do that... :p

I have a 9 cell battery, and get a little over 3 hours life on it, and I travel all the time for business, often needing my laptop in airports and doing work on the plane. I haven't run into times when I get too low, so if your used off-grid is going to be anywhere near what I do or less, I'd spend the extra money on more RAM or a bigger hard drive, or something that will have a more palpable impact on your computing experience.

I voted "no" for many of the reasons Pitabred has already stated. You always have the opportunity to purchase a battery at a later date if you find it necessary. It might be better to wait until you need the extra power (if ever) because batteries start to decay as soon as they are made "wet" whether or not you are using them.

I have a d820 with 9cell and modular bay battery and I get around 6-7 hours of battery life, with the dedicated NVS120 video card.

Unless you need battery life, I wouldn't bother.

Only do it if you need the battery life as stated. I personally wish that I had a modular bay batter for my E1505, But I use my laptop away from home alot.
