Is there a better notebook cooler than this?

Let me refer you to this thread on OCN where someone combines 3x 120mm Rosewell case fans with a Notepal U3 cooler. I can personally verify that this dropped 5C on my master GPU and 2C on my slave GPU in my Clevo P370SM laptop. The temps were already pretty good so the drop isn't as dramatic. Still, this is a sound improvement over using the stock U3 fans, where I basically saw no reduction in temperature at all.

In any case I would like to point to the question in my thread title: is this the best that you can buy right now, and if not, what's better? If yes, then hopefully this will become the standard answer to "what's the best notebook cooler" type questions.

I'm curious to know why they are better? Higher rpms? Are they as quiet?

Higher rpm (2200 vs 1800) and larger diameter (120mm vs 80mm) means that each Rosewell fan can push 4x as much air as the U3 stock fans. (87.5 CFM vs 22 CFM). So, a single Rosewell 120mm fan will push more air than all 3 U3 stock fans combined. You can probably see why the 120mm fans are much more effective.

Yes the noise is a lot more audible, but it's not what I would call loud, just an audible humming sound. Frankly if you're gaming it's not hard to drown out the fan noise, but if you want whisper quiet fans then it's not for you. (but you'll be hard pressed to find a fan that's both quiet and pushes a lot of air)

I remember that cooler, I once hooked a 180mm Silverstone Penetrator fan to it to cool my monstrous ASUS N61JQ with an i7-920XM. Worked quite well for a while ;)

What happened, did you clock the XM too far or did the fan suck in something it shouldn't have? :p

had time today to put most of the cooler together, was hoping to save the lighting from sf-19 but i manage to burn them out. these 200mm fans are surprisingly quite. still need to sand down and paint and add some lighting.

WOW. Now that is the sleekest notebook cooler I've ever seen.

Is that just a single block of aluminum?

Looks more like stainless, I wanna say.

Also probably CNC milled for the lettering and then bent?

Folding at home, VRAM chips under the heatpipes died. Turns out that was a air dead-zone so the extra fan powah did diddly squat. But yeah, cooling pads don't really do much lol

Must be pretty heavy then by the looks of it if it's stainless steel, but I guess the heft and sturdiness is desirable most of the time, unless you're carrying it around in a backpack. :p

I can't do the bending but I've got the capability to do the cut out shapes at work, if someone wants a pricey one-off...

inap's cooler finally gave me enough motivation to do this:
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Yeah yeah worksmanship is <del>Clevo quality</del> subpar whatever, all I had was a Dremel so stop hating ok? Plus it works really well: CPU temps cut by 5C, and GPU temps cut by 2-3C.
