    I know Logitech has the media play mouse but that's still a mouse.

    And their latest desktop combo, the S510 w/ Media Remote has a real remote too.

    So are there are any remote only packages out there from any manufacturer.

    Depends on what you want it to be compatible with. There are a few I know that work with media players, such as, Winamp, iTunes, and Windows Media Player. This one is the cheapest that I know of, it is made by a company called keyspan:

    It connects via USB port.

    You could actually create your own IR remote, but you would need a serial port, and I gave up the idea of making my own because my notebook doesn't have a serial port.

    Oh wow thanks... Tiger Direct is selling the discontinue Keyspan remote for $20 bucks with $7 shipping. I think I'll pick one up now.
