Right now I have an over-the shoulder leather laptop bag, and it's a little uncomfortable and failed to protect my laptop from a nasty dent. So I'm in the market for something more comfy/protective and I came across this:

Just curious if this bag is comfortable and will provide very good protection for my laptop.

I must say that is a really good looking bag with ALOT of compartments!!
And yeah it looks like it would protect and also give you a comfort fit with the rear exterior padding -
That looks awesome, I would buy that in an instant, and wow at the storage space! :O

i dont think any bag is really fullproof. I value my laptop, and I dont care about weight. I built a diamondplate case for my backpack, to protect my laptop in case I trip and fall, slip on ice or get hit by a car. The steel is 3/8" thick and it weighs about 35lbs, but I know my laptop is safe, no matter what. The shell is completely padded, so i am not very worried about it breaking.
Having a good padded sleeve for your laptop can minimize impact, but if you tripped and fell backwards on it, your laptop is most likely going to break, cause you weigh say 150lbs or so and the inertia from you falling is quite large, which is more than any store bought preventative measure can buy

If i remember correctly your laptop weight itself 26lbs...added to another 34lbs thats quite a load to just be walking around with.
you know unless you were breed from a race of giants... and then nevermind cause you know... your a giant -
OMG I think I fell in love with that bag
-
wow, those things look like they can stop a heavy armor piercing shell from a tank. i would buy one if i wanted to game and tread the battlefield in style...otherwise i'll settle for a targus, less than 1/2 the cost for similar protection...
-
Thanks for the input. zero7404, can you give me a link to the bag you have? I'd like to take a look at it.

i knew when i bought it that it was a 15" notebook bag, and i had a 17", but i got lucky because my 17" notebook (dv9500) fits in it fine (just a little snug at the top, but bag still closes). anyway, i found it on sale @ bestbuy and i needed a bag quick, so i just bought it.
second time around i'm going to go with their 17" sized backpacks.
i do not know how others here handle their notebook backpacks but i handle it with care, so i don't really need a $ 300 + bag.... -

that's the bag i have....when i bought it last year i found it for 25 bucks....guess bb has some excess bags they need to move...

Thanks for the link. Luckily my parents saw me looking at the mamba and said they'd get it for me as an early birthday gift, lol.

If you want overkill protection for your laptop, use Tohm Bihns' Brain Cell as a sleeve in any old bag of yours that can fit it inside; or as a stand-alone! Tohm Bihns got their own fitting laptop bags for this thing, but they're pricey.
Since I'm a Tohm Bihn bag fan I'm using their Super-Ego bag with the Brain Cell.
Edit: Grats on the Mamba. -
looks alright, but its just not my style. jansport makes some cool bags. you can try there. they are kind of cheap.
-
Well I ordered the bag. Got it from Amazon instead. The S&H from Booq cost more than the bag itself.
-
Booq makes nice bags...
have an older model myself...
tad thin on the cushion for the laptop compartments and shoulder straps... but other than that... nice design...
buckles are ok... not the best... but ok...
rubber patches will come off in a bit... but then they are not strong patches anywhoo... -

If Jansport laptop bags are as bad as their school bags...
I remember in high-school replacing my jansport bags every year. They were always the cheapest but did their job. -
Lol I used a jansport bag for the past 5 year nonstop in middle school and high school, and the only part thats a little worn is the bottom. Good Quality IMO.
BB FTW! I just picked up 2 of the targus groove bags from BB. They aren't the best material, and they are little thin. But still...$10 FTW!!!! -
Laptop backpacks fall apart way too fast, and I as well found myself replacing them every year. But I found a solution. In my local welding shop, I noticed a guy who had a small repair backpack which could fit two small gas cylinders and the mask. The material was nice and thick, and designed to take a beating, and I used that for many of my school years, and it never failed me. It was made by Miller welding, I am not sure if they still sell it.
For $10 its probably a good deal, but I got my military bag which is completely waterproof and made of heavy american made canvas for only $25 and it holds the 50 lbs or so I carry in it every day, and there is little to no wear at all.

for $10 its def. worth it. I tried some purpose abuse on it, and it seems fine. Only time will tell on how well it will last, but if i have to change it every year, i'm covered for 6 years

i figured i'd limit my selection to what was available in stores and picked up the city gear bag from targus today...85 bucks is not too bad for a bag this size, but i prefer the styling of wenger and i can't find a 17" bag made by them in stores i went to. i also stopped by a modells and had a look, i liked the adidas backpacks, but only hold 15.4"....bummer.
update:
the m1730 fits in this bag....but the compartment is too big and the laptop moves around in it.....i think i'm going to return it and look for something with a more secure fit. -
considering that from this thread i've seen it all (basically), anywhere from 20 $ bags to $ 400 bags....i did some searching around again to find something better than the targus citygear i bought (and eventually returned).
i went down to Manhattan Portage to check out what they have, and found they also had a more upscale lineup in the store called Token. after measuring a few out for the m1730, i finally picked the TK-440 messenger. it's pretty good protection although the notebook sticks out just about 1" from where the padding ends. they had other larger bags that came with laptop/notebook pouches that you can remove, but those bags were a bit big for me.
anyway, the TK-440 set me back 150, it's styling and padding for the notebook are really nice, but not too many pockets.

Is this a good 17" bag? I want something that will really protect my laptop.
