Hi I was looking around for a set of portable speakers for my laptop that would give good sound without needing to be plugged into a power socket. I was surprised at the lack of speaker that ultilised the USB port as a power sorce. However I did come across these Jazz speakers, which fitted what I was looking for. The best news is that they are also v.cheap at only $25(Aust)!!. The same money would by me a pair of cheap non-powered speakers that would be no better than the ones in my laptop.
So without delay I order a set. They were a bit larger than I had thorght, from the pics I was thinking they would be the size of the apple MAC speakers. But they are still small enough (just) to stick in a suitcase/overnight bag. The sound quality is surprisingly good, and quite loud, not sure if I would say its 5.1, but there is a reasonable amount of bass, no distortion, and crisp mids and highs. They don't seem to drain the battery significantly either, only used 50% of the battery to watch a 2h DVD with the speakers the other night on my ASUS M2N.
The only downside, which might be a plus for some, is that the speakers require drivers to run (even under XP). Thus those with a busted sound card can still use these speakers. It also took a few goes to get the drivers installed, but since these early teathing problems, I have nothing but praise for these speakers.
I am also very glad that I didn't settle for and shell out the $200 for the creative travel sound.

This seems to be a great product (for mobile users), though not sure about sound quality or volume output. Definitely worth taking a look at...

Bose sells a nice set of computer speakers, they are like $100 for the set, and its only 2 speakers. It seems hard to justify spending money on speakers that look like an average set that u would get with a desktop. But i must say, they sound absolutly great! Bose is known to make some of the top sound systems for car, home and marine. So feel the money was very well spent. They also sell a larger set for $249, but its more directed towards laptops.
