My temps are hot on my laptop so i bought the best cooler. My temps decreased by 5 celcius. But one of the main reasons i bought the cooler was because my laptop becomes hot when im in bed since the vents are covered and the laptop cooler doesnt lower the temps what so ever. ODD!!

have you tried cleaning your intake/exhaust/fan? also, ambient temperature affects temps.
-
-
Yes, try cleaning it out.. but since you use it on a bed, I don't think the Zalman would help much since its exhaust vents are also on the bottom.. Have you heard of the Notepal Inifinite? You can definitely use that on your bed! Check out X2P's "Notebook Coolers : A Buyers Guide", he has some info on it there.

5c is pretty decent really when you consider 80c ok and 100c danger zone, 5c is 1/4th of that difference.
However I have been saying it for a long time I think the zalmans coolers are not what you want for great cooling but rather great aesthetics. Its supposed to be super quiet, and the reason for that is low fan rpm and low cfm aka not a great cooler (for cooling) what it does do tho and it does it great is look good, its built super solid, and it gives that nice tilt to your laptop to type on.
Also any laptop is hit & miss with a cooling pad since it depends on where the vents are and how they operate.
Plus in bed the Zalmans wont work, it will keep the laptop from getting its vents blocked by the bed, but the cooler will not function when it has to pull air from under the unit just like most laptops do. Look at the bottom of the cooler, the intake is on the bottom! It has to be on a smooth flat surface.
Yes the notepal infiity is the bed warriors cooler ^^ I even said that in a review here. For now I recomend you get a TV tray, lap desk or something like that to hold the laptop and cooler on. Also there was a review of this really cool "desk" that changes into like 4 or 5 different kinds of desks for a laptop, one of them was for bed, where it holds the notebook up above you so you can laydown and type. -
idk if you guys know this or not but my notebook is running hotter then avg. But with cooler it becomes avg. So once send my notebook for repairs my temps should be lower and ofc i have cleaned the the inside and it was very clean.
-
maybe you should get a lapdesk..... using a gaming notebook on a soft surface is not recommended by me.
You can just get any flat panel or board and place your notebook (with cooler) on it when using it on the bed, then it would stay cool and safe from overheating. -
tv/lunch trays work great also.
-
Lol, I have a souvenir cafeteria tray I use (Marine Corps Museum). The rubber feet on the Zalman keep it from sliding around when I use it.

Or you could get one of these
-
Wow, I did not expect to see such a variety of lap gadgets!!!
BTW still try to fathom why fans location on coolers and laptops has to coincide? Sounds very strange -
maximize cool air flow to the intake. it doesn't have to be perfect but close enough your intake sucks enough cool air to make the cooler effective.
-
yeah i haven't had a chance to fool with the cooler yet . Work grr. But ill be looking into making a custom tray for my laptop
might add fans into it as well.I have a question about cleaning the laptop. What can i use instead of a Compressed air can?. I don't have one but i might pick one up just to see if my temps drop even thought i can't see any dust what so ever.
-
lol if I am gaming in bed I use an old particleboard keyboard tray that broke off of my desk. If I am just surfing the net like right now, I use a Dell Inspiron 9200 laptop lid/screen (because the laptop itself died) and it is the perfect size.

Make sure that theres airflow through the notebook and its cooler.... and using a cheap cookie sheet or food tray would work fine.
Every one to two months you will need to check the vents (with a flashlight) to check for clogs.
- if you cant see the light on the other end... then its time.
As for compressed air cans... they are a rip-off compared to investing in a $50-60 air compressor (w/ 1-2 gallon tank). The compressor pays for itself in the end, just set it to around 50 PSI when using it. -
my notebook is going for repairs soon. My temps are a bit high . While playin grid my gpu temps is around 92-98. I owned the notebook for 5 months. I have talked to sager and they told me to use compressed air which is fine ill do it even though the laptop like super clean inside. I don't want send the laptop in find out its normal :S .. lolz
-
possibly the thermal grease/pad or whatever they used on your gpu gone bad or loose?
-
I thought cooler fan pumps out air from the clearance between bottom of NB and cooler top and surrounding are (cool one) is coming under NB intake. Other words cooler prevents air from stalling under NB -
all sager i think is going to do is apply thermal paste. But i have a question is the stock laptops they send out (orginals) do they have thermal paste applied to them? I really want to make sure they do the right not do some shaddy thing to fix the overheating. even though applying thermal paste is fine but i just want the real fix to fix the overheating. Also a question:
Can i use a blow dryer(hair dryer) that shoots cold air instead of the compressed air can??? -
you can just blow into the vents (both ways). thats better than a hair dryer.
did you do the flashlight thing that I told you? That will tell you if there is dust in the vents or not. -
I already checked for dust mate.
there is no dust. I keep my laptop clean. Also my room get cleaned like everyday .(moms a clean freak) But yeah ill just get a compressed air can just to be sure. But i cleaned my desktop out with q tips etc and that just worked fine but just to be sure ill pick up compressed air can tonight.
-
if its not dust, then it might actually be that the heatsink is not properly secured and may need to be re-seated (with re-application of thermal compound).
also make sure your fans spin up ok during full load (heavy usage).
another thing it could be (from other owners of the same notebook), could be specific drivers can cause more heat than others.
Just got Zalman NC2000 - Sad :(
