I was looking at the kensington combination portable notebook lock for college but the reviews are rather dismal. Any one have this and want to give a "revieW" of it? I'll be using it for a Sager NP8662 most likely.

I got the more expensive keyed lock and I don't regret it at all. I always have the keys on me along with my room key (I'm also in college), and it only takes a couple seconds to lock and unlock it. My stubborn girlfriend wouldn't listen to me and got a combo lock. She doesn't use it any more because it's too much of the PITA to manipulate the tiny little number rings into the right combination.

i got a cheap combi lock off ebay. i dont move it much, so i dont need to fiddle with too often, but i think they are a useful deterant. well worth getting in any form. your just paying for convinence when you spend more than the basic amount.

Sounds to me like I should just hide my laptop rather than show it visible on my dorm desk. I suppose the thief will spend more time if he had to look for my laptop than just getting a piece of cardboard and taking a couple of seconds to unlock the kensington lock.

How many things do you have hooked up to your laptop, and how big is it? It would be a big pain to hide it every night. You really don't have that much room in a dorm. I feel very safe leaving my laptop locked but out in the open.

Get some razor blades and hide them underneath the laptop so if someone goes to grab it, they get all messed up. We used to do this w/ our car amps and subs. :p

    Oh, and Lojack!
