Is there a keyboard that can be used with the Dell E1405 that can turn the computer on?

I want to be able to use the computer with an external screen, and keep the laptop shut - and use an external keyboard to turn it on when needed - and not have to open the computer.

    Any ideas?

i had a quick look, and it seems that a power button on the keyboard has to be supported by your bios, which i'm not sure whether your E1505(i think it is) has.

But answering your question i think the logitech diNovo Edge, and maybe the logitech s510. they are expensive though.

it seems that a "power" button on a keyboard is mainly to put the computer/laptop into sleep mode, log off or something like that, but not to actually power it on.

I actually have the same problem with my set up, so i just put it into sleep mode.

I looked up the Logitech models and I didn't see anywhere that you can use it to wake up / turn on the computer?

I can't imagine why anyone would need this on a notebook but anyhow, the feature you're looking for is, Wake on USB/Keyboard. You'll find this in the BIOS if available for your notebook. One other thing, any keyboard will do.

    Thanks.

One problem - the bluetooth module is connected via USB, so being that the USB gives power to the BT even when the computer is sleeping, when the computer wakes up for some reason it rediscovers all the BT services, making sounds for each one, which is annoying.

You have the option to disable the system beep in Windows. I notice this on my Latitude as well with certain task. What I like to do is assign a quieter wave sound to "Default Beep" in the [Control Panel]->[Sounds and Audio Devices].

    Good luck.
