    So as the title says.

What mouse do you guys recommend? I'm about to buy a new gaming mouse and I want YOUR recommendation.

Bit in a dilemma here.. also if you know a better mouse do suggest it, but explain why you think it's a valid option.

Also.. I'm quite aware of the pros and cons, I just do not have the mouse's next to me and I cant decide physically.. so help me out here :)

P.S. Provide some links if you've got suggestions! Thanks in advance.

I've never hard of SteelSeries, but I don't like the looks of them. Never heard of the Roccat either.

I have had a G9x and a R.A.T. 7, which I currently have. The G2x was good, solid, but I hated the way it felt in my hand, since I like to spread my hand out.

The R.A.T. is great. I hated how it felt out of the box, but once I adjusted all of it, dang, it is comfortable. The sensor is very goos in my opinion, but you'll hear otherwise. I love the click wheel, and the side scroll is useful for switching weapons or spells in games. The adjustable DPI is great, but the G9x can do it too.

My vote goes to the DeathAdder. I've used them since the original 2007 model, and it has one of the best optical sensors ever made. Extremely comfortable shape as well, though that's more of a personal preference.

I would say, you could limit your choices to the Sensei, Deathadder, and the Logitech one. Heard bad things about Roccat and the mad catz RAT 7.

Well I'll take the RAT 7 and Roccat off my list.

The G9x sounds like a solid choice, but so does the Deathadder and the SteelSeries Sensei & Xai.

A choice I cannot decide by myself.. sadly.

Appreciate the answers you guys have given me and great review Vergil.

Do continue if you'd like, would be greatly beneficial to me!

    Hi,
I have a Cyborg M.M.O. 7 and had a Roccat Savu before. The Savu was much smaller in width (the length can be changed on the M.M.O. so we can't really count that) and while it was a nice and reliable mouse I needed more buttons on it, that's why I went with the M.M.O. 7.
I needed some time to adjust to the width of it, but now I actually like it better than the Savu and because of the ability to change and move it's parts it fits my hand perfectly. It has a pretty standard macro/keybind software which works as expected. Surprisingly the ability to lock the mouse buttons to be continously pressed helps me quite often too, which I didn't expect. The only problem with it that I'd point out is that it's not as sturdy as it looks, mainly the palm rest. It's not perfectly firmly in it's place because of the adustability and it moves around a bit if you only put your palm on the mouse and move it around.
If the RAT 7 is similar in software and build quality (despite the palm rest) I would definitely recommend you that one :).

    Here's my current setup:

Thank you... that RAT 7 surely looks freakin' delicious.. I must admit that, but given the things I've heard..

Really annoys me that there's literally horror stories about every single mouse out on the market.. damn it :D

I had a Steelseries Xai for a few months and I can just recommend it. At first for like a week I just hated it because before the Xai I played only with low-dpi optical mice's so it was a big change but after a week or two I just loved it and as I play frequently CS 1.6 I can say that it really improved my skill. If you have the extra cash you should get the Sensei because I heard only good things about it and it's basically a much better Xai-Version. If you search for a perfect accuracy than the Steelseries is really the way to go. It maybe doesn't have very much extra features like other mice's but for me the pointer-accuracy is the most important thing so in the near future I will buy for sure a Sensei.

Thanks, I've been playing a lot of DotA 2 and CS:GO lately so a mouse with PERFECT accuracy is gold for me.

I'm standing still between R.A.T. 7, Sensei, Deathadder and G9x (it's a baby to hold :D, but lacks in features)

The DeathAdder's optical sensor has a comparatively very high perfect control speed, which is the fastest speed you can physically move the mouse before experiencing tracking errors. Obviously, higher is better. I don't have the link on hand, but there was a study that actually tested this stuff with a mechanical arm.

Yes exactly these features I meant. The only thing that I didn't like about the Xai was the lift-issue. When I lifted the mice the pointer would go a bit crazy.
The Sensei has this fixed through the ExactLift.

I hate to gatecrash the party, but the only significant difference is the lights and the custom lift distance.

A mouse simply doesn't need a huge amount of power to work effectively. All it does is look at an image and calculate the amount it's moved from one to the other, something which doesn't take that much to do. The response time is largely determined by the polling rate, again, something that the new processor won't affect much since most high end mice are capable of the max 1000hz USB polling rate anyway.

I just received the Mamba and will be putting it thru its paces over the weekend and I'll be able to give my input on it vs my Alienware mouse.

I might be able to give some input on the Deathadder and the Logitech G9x as those seem to be familier to the ones I own.

    Great to know.

I've made the conclusion to completely eliminate the Kone[+].

    Reasons you ask?
Well a friend of mine obviously has it and I tested it today.

    • mouse scroll doesnt work
    • it's insanely large
    • lights not beautiful
    • again INSANELY large and klunky
So it's between the Deathadder, RAT 7, G9x and Sensei (the Xai is basically without lights, I wouldn't mind fancy some metal lights and a metal finish, Xai vs Sensei)

After playing with the Mamba and the Alienware together I'll have to say is the only thing that I like about the Alienware better is the scroll wheel. Everything else the Mamba takes the cake.

To me the Mamba just feels better in my hand, could be the size plays a role as the Mamba is bigger. Position of the buttons on the side of the Mamba seem to be better positioned as well in my opinion.

In your case the Deathadder over the G9x is what I'll take. Sorry that I can't say anything about any other mouses as I have not used them.

G9x is a great mouse but I personally prefer the customizations available on the R.A.T. 7. Contrary to what most say, the sensor on the R.A.T. is not horrible, based on my experience that is. I actually find it similar to the G9x in terms of accuracy. I remember using the G9x a few years back but it wasn't as comfortable as the R.A.T. for the longer gaming sessions. Maybe if the G9x had a longer palm rest and had a similar wing-like pinkie rest, it would be similar in comfort.

The R.A.T. 9 is supposed to have a longer palm rest that can be adjusted out and the way one would like haha

The customization of the R.A.T. 7 just looks so appealing to me!! Damn :p

Also, the G400/G500 aren't too loud is you ask me, but I haven't tested a lot others to be honest....

Thanks to you all for your suggestions, I've managed to collect all these mice and test them out ;) I talked with some people and some local stores and such and got the following gaming mice:

    • Cyborg R.A.T. 5
    • Razer Mamba
    • Logitech G9x
    • Razer DeathAdder
    • Steelseries Xai
    • Steelseries Sensei
    • Roccat Savu
    • Logitech G500
All mice were tested in DotA 2, CS:GO, League of Legends and Warcraft 3:FT.

    - And the winner was Steelseries................ SENSEI! Yes you see, it has 8 buttons, which is neat and I don't need more or less. Also it got lights.. not bad, but the best point here is the better coating than the Xai, I must admit it feels better to hold.

There were a few reasons for my choice.

    1. One, my hand is not so big, therefor the DeathAdder was hard to hold, it's IMO better than the Mamba (I have no exact reason why :D it just feels better).
    2. Two, I'm not the mice that have their coating wear off after quite some time, the G500 does that fairly quickly (I sweat a lot).
    3. Three, the Savu is just plain ugly and feels cheap.
    4. Four, again I'm not into large mice as I'm fairly small.. the G9x, R.A.T. 5.
    5. Five, the Mamba is wireless, away with you (does NOT benefit you in DotA 2/LoL as I cannot tolerate any latency issue at ALL) (and the battery doesn't hold for several days.. I tend to take my mouse with me to different places)
    6. Six (last one), one thing that bugs me is that I couldn't get hold of the R.A.T. 7 as it's supposed to be slightly better and I did enjoy the R.A.T 5 even though it's fairly large (even when you screw the thingy)
So I enjoy the help you guys have given me, so once again thanks!!! ;)

BTW! Was originally going for the Steelseries Sensei RAW, but it turned out to be more expensive... so nevermind :p

No it doesn't. I used mine every day for a year and a half and nothing came off. After 4 years, the rubberized coating came off my MX500. But my dad has another MX500 that has been his regular mouse since 2003 and it still has its rubber coating.

I swear like hell, water pours as if niagara falls shifted onto my hands.. so it's really annoying for me to deal with rubberized mice with some kind of print on it.
    - yeah my best friend sweats even more and his G500 is all tried out, he has had it 2 weeks, no offensive but having such retarded hands like me I would prefer a weird coated mouse (hence the SS Sensei with "metal" coating)

    Two weeks!

Maybe there are some quality control issues with the rubber coating on some Logitech mice. I could understand if the mouse just got really dirty after a couple of weeks, but for the rubber coating to show any wear that fast is crazy. Might seriously want to consider an RMA if that bothers your friend.

edit: he'll do it tomorrow :) but back on track if the sensei doesn't turn out for my taste I'll order the G500 as the only thing that made me NOT buy it was the rubber coating wear off, I'll see into it thanks Qing Dao and everyone who has replied so far too!!

I have the G9 & Orochi, had the DeathAdder & Lachesis, but never had a Roccat, Rat, or SteelSeries mouse. Though I am interested in the Roccat Pyra Wireless or the G700 Wireless (might too big for me).

By the way I grip the mouse half-way between fingertip/claw grip and palm grip and have a medium sized hand. :) So I like mice than are shorter when measuring from the front (by the cord) to the back. Also I like the front of the mouse to be higher (where the 2 main click buttons are) and the rear of the mouse to be higher and bigger. So, the Roccat Pyra looks like it may fit.

I never liked the classic IntelliMouse shape, so I didn't like the DeathAdder.

The Lachesis was too long and low for my grip.

The G9 is perfect for me; I wish Logitech would make a wireless version.

The Orochi is small but okay for me, up to 2000cpi/dpi on Bluetooth is nice too.

I might have to try the Steelseries Sensei, I've got their QcK Small mousepad but none of their mice.

Yeah, the G9 is wide but comes with 2 grips, a textured (like fine sandpaper) narrow grip and a rubberized (smooth) wide grip. The rubberized feels like a modern Razer.

So many options for gaming mice these days. :)

    Looking forward to your review.
How would you rate the build quality of SteelSeries versus Logitech G-Series, Roccat, or Razer's mice/keyboards?

Actually the Logitech G9x is build insanely well and the G500 is very nice to hold, better than the Steelseries Sensei (the Sensei is slightly stronger and heavier than the Xai.. I think, feels that way). But the Sensei has a metal coating which makes it perfect to hold and doesn't absorb sweat like any other.

The Roccat Kone[+] is big and clumsy, I would recommend the Kova[+] instead, another thing is that Roccat is making a new mouse here soon.

Razer DeathAdder is large and the Mamba is wireless, but they are both built very well.

Anyways: G9x/G500 > Sensei > DeathAdder ~ Mamba (depends on hand size and wireless preference) > Roccat Kone[+] (cannot really talk about the others as I haven't played with them besides touching the Kova[+] once :p)
basically the Sensei's coating is the game changer for me

:) tried not to be biased but it's hard as friends and oneself make assumptions straight away

You're probably thinking of the Mamba, which has the same shape as the DeathAdder, but the DeathAdder is definitely not wireless. ;)

the g700 looks odd and I couldn't get a hold of it either

I ended up with a SteelSeries Sensei, it's actually much better than I anticipated and it's engine is the BEST thing ever, so easy!
    - but I'll come onto that later when I do the review, pretty busy with my exams.. got 3 left and then I'll do a big review with video and everything ;)
