Is there any real reason not to get the HDTV? I can get a bigger screen for cheaper, I can watch TV, I can play my Xbox, and of course I can use it as a second computer screen.
I'm thinking something between 22-32". I figure if there was really that much of an advantage to the monitor, than I'd go with 22" or 24", but if I go with the HDTV I'd want something a little bigger.
Any opinions?

That was actually one of them I was looking at.

Well, a true monitor will usually support a higher resolution for the computer. For example, my 42" LCD Vizio only supports 1024x768. Windows and web pages look like crap in that resolution, but games still look amazing. I also use it for my PS3 and TV.
I say go with whatever fits your budget and if you'll also be using it for the Xbox/TV, I'd go with bigger size. -
Yeah, I don't really plan on using it for web pages or any computer applications. Maybe every now and then, but nothing that would sway the purchase one way or another. I mostly want to use it to play media from my pc. I'm starting to think it would make more sense to just buy a TV. Not only would I be able to watch TV, but I could also play media through my xbox which is networked with my laptop. I guess an HDTV that hooks up to my laptop would just be a bonus.
Alright than, I guess now its just deciding what size to get. I really don't know a whole lot about TVs these days as I haven't bought one in about 6 years. I know one thing I notice in stores is that when you get close to some LCDs it seems as if the picture is really grainy, why is that? -
What is your budget like and will this be hung on a wall or sitting on a stand? My TV really only gets grainy/pixelation when the screen changes real quick to a bunch of different colors or when like confetti is on the screen. It's annoying when it does that, but it's really so rare that it doesn't bother me. The only thing that does bother me about the LCD is that it can't really display black, which can be annoying when watching a dark movie or playing a dark game.

This may not apply to you right now but if you're using a monitor it is generally thought that you aren't too far away from it. It's the exact opposite of a TV. So if you're browsing and occasional media, it wouldn't make much sense to invest in a TV and vice versa. I could be wrong, but monitors usually have higher dpi hence the cost per inch to manufacture is higher. That's why for a fixed amount you can either get a bigger TV with lower resolution or a smaller monitor with higher resolution.
I apologize for not coming straight to the point, but in my convoluted sorta way =P -
My recommendation is to get as big as you can possibly afford. I have a 32" TV and at the time of purchase it thought it was big, but looking back i wish i had a bigger one.

is the one i have, but i got it from them for 499.99 because i am cool like that. -
I bought a 42'' Westinghouse HD Monitor last year for $1,700 (can be found cheaper now). I love it! I watch tv on it, play games, watch movies, and I hook my current laptop up to it for a massive internet screen. I love it. One screen for EVERYTHING.

I have the 37" HD Westy and its the best thing I ever got for my PC period. GREAT investment. Playing games is much more imersive, browsing the web or doing photoshop is easier, and watching movies its the next best thing to being in the theater.
1920x1080 res 37" size. I could have got the 42" model for 200$ more I thought it would be too big but now I look back I wouldn't have minded the extra size, the bigger the better! 37" about 3-4ft away when I use it as a PC is perfect and im about 6ft away when I watch movies.
was 1000$ shipped. Definitly get 1080p for PC use dont get a 720 set.
I did a pretty indepth user review of it that you can find here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10105 be sure to check it out it may help you decide on what you want.
