    Hey everybody,
Just wondering if anybody has any opinions on using an lcd tv as a monitor. I am thinking of buying a 20 inch wide screen insignia display from futureshop in canada. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10078469&catid=
Its looks pretty decent but I cant find too many reviews on it. It says it has 480i/480p, 720p/1080i capability but I'm not really too sure what that translates to in resolution. I have a w3j with a 1280x768 and an ati x1600. Would this set up work?

The other option is obviously an lcd monitor which seem to be a little cheaper but I kinda wanted to get the functionality of the tv.

    What do ya think?
    Thanks
    Dan

having both a 32" lcd TV and had a 24" lcd, I would stick with the lcd monitor for viewing just because its more clear and the text is sharper due to the much higher resolution. I def. would NOT get a 20" lcd tv as a computer monitor esp with only 480 resolution.

This is what the resolutions translate to. So 480 would be a bit better than a regular tv, but not much. Not good enough to use it as a screen.

    1,920x1,080 1080p
    1,366x768 768p
    1,280x720 720p
    1,024x768 HDTV plasma
    852x480 EDTV plasma
    852x480 480p
640x480 VGA - small LCD TVs
Regular TV, up to 480 lines

The ATI x1600 should be more than enough to output at high resolutions on the LCD TV, as long at the tv supports it. The higher the better for clarity of image and prettyness of it all.

Edit: I just found the resolution of the model you're thinking about, it's..
    Pixel Resolution 1366*768 pixel

So it probably upscales to 1080i instead of being a true 1080i.

    There ya go.

I wouldn't plan on gaming though with a x1600 pushing a 1920x1080 resolution. While you can, don't plan on having any eye candy turned on for something like Oblivion or Bioshock. But it will have much better text display and look much more crisp.
