Worth buying it should help to protect your screen from scratch, dust
-
What are you doing with your laptop that you need to protect the screen? It looks to me that device will just add glare.
-
I wouldn't get it. For one, they are difficult to install and they will affect your viewing on your screen. I tried one that we did a review on, and it was horrible. For 17in screens, it isn't worth it.

Are you tring to protect the screen from fingerprints/dust/? or from the keyboard keys hitting the screen when the lid is closed?
If its the latter follow this link http://www.shaggymac.com/. I can atest to their products since I have two of them, one for a 15.4in and the other a 17in notebook. Ordered mine on a Saturday afternoon and they were delivered on Monday. -
Here is the review: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=25517&highlight=screen+protector
That was on a smaller screen though. I bought the same screen protector that was reviewed, and all i had was problems. I figured it was probably because of the larger screen. -
Does the lcd protector use glue to stick to the lcd?
I'm considering getting one, but i fear the glue residue on a glossy screen -
I second the shaggymac suggestion. I've got a couple myself. Works wonderful.

I also have the shaggymac. Its good for cleaning the LCD also plus protecting it.
The LCD protectors do use a gluey substance. At least the one I tried did use glue to make sure that it stuck on the LCD. The instructions that came with my screen said that I didn't have to take my top bezel off in order to use the screen protector. It should be able to slide in there, but I didn't like the idea of pulling off the glue protectors, then sliding the protective screen against my LCD with the glue.
My suggestion is if you really want to try the screen protector, take off your top bezel. This way you can place the protective layer directly on your screen without the glue smearing. I don't know if this will leave any glue behind if you take the protective layer off.

Quick question about the shaggymac - I read in another post that putting a cloth b/w the screen and keyboard will help stop compression of the screen when the notebook is in a backpack with books etc. Will this product do that or is it just for cleaning?

it protects the keyboard from touching the screen. Also, if you have crumbs and stuff in keyboard, it won't get on the screen when you have the shaggymac because you have the protective barrier between it.
