OK, I just reinstalled my OS. I installed XP Pro. I had to reinstall due to a nasty virus. As I was reinstalling I came across the normal option to format a drive at the (BLUE SCREEN). Well I left my usb drive (1 GIG)pluged in to my computer and didn't remember to remove it. Well, at the blue screen I saw a fat32 partition at about 900megs. At the time I was not thinking about the USB drive being pluged in so I selected that drive (which I believe was the USB drive) and chose the option to remove partition thinking it was a partition on this used laptop computer I bought recently that I didnt see on the last fresh install I did of the OS so I figured I'd remove it. I can put the drive in now and the computer see's it and will ask me to format it. I dont want to format it cause I have some impotrant information I stored on it for the fresh OS install....lol...But I tried to format it anyways just to see if it would and it will not even format it. I can't see any of the data on it. I can see the drive in windows explorer as ( Removable Disk)but when clicked on it asks to format it. Any help on this one? If not can you send me in the right direction?

I just called LG and a man told me he has never heard of that problem before. I asked him if there was a solution and he said no to take it back to Sam's Wherehouse. I said what if I didn't buy it from there? He responded with "Thats the only place that sells them"... lol... OK,Sure... So I looked online and sure enough you can buy them online. But I think I knew that. He obviously didn't know Jack and was going to get his pay check no matter how he helped...

can you clarify what exactly it is that you've done to the external drive?

you erased a logical partition on your external drive?, but haven't reformatted it yet?

I thought I explained myself pretty well... As I was reinstalling winxp, at the blue screen where its asks which drive to format or you can also remove a partition at this section of reinstalling, I noticed an fat32 drive with over 900megs. I cant recall the drive letter but I figured "at the time" that it was just part of the laptops hard drive. It didnt cross my mind that it was or might be the USB Drive plugged into the USB Port. Soooo, of the options that were available, one being something like "remove a partition" I chose this one while the 900meg fat32 drive was selected, which I think was the USB drive. It couldn't have been anything else that I can remember.

    ok, GO here:

You see the 5th "large" screenshot down? Thats where I saw my usb drive when it was plugged in. See the option to "delete the selected partition"? Well thats what I believe I did. Understand?

You deleted the partition of your USB drive, as far as I know; there is no way of recovering your data.

If you think your information is THAT valuable, you might consider professional recovery, but it will cost hundreds of dollars.

You've made a mistake. Without a backup I’m pretty confident anyone will tell you it's a loss anyway.

I'll second Wipeout. Pros could probably do it for you, but, it will be VERY expensive.
