If you just need a stand, the iPad smart cover sort of works.

The problem with 'on lap' trays is how comfortable you are with 8kg of laptop pressing down on your legs. I personally can't use them, I find it impractical to use in that way for gaming or to be honest most tasks. Others get on with them.

The ones I linked above are much better, albeit bulkier options which make using the laptop on a couch or bed much more comfortable.

I combined my one (first link) with the Cooler Master U3 cooling pad. Works perfectly.

I'm really considering getting one of those you posted, but I need a carrying case or backpack first and those run around $80!

I hear ya! Even worse this side of the pond mate, $80=£80 regardless of exchange rates! Sucks to be a British consumer!

In its folded pyramid form, I can kinda see where he's coming from, on a flat surface it would raise say, the rear end of the laptop. However I wouldn't put much faith in it keeping the weight of an M17x for extended durations!

it'd be pretty ridiculous on a table....i absolutely fail to see how it would work at all on your lap.

not to mention it would just force the front edge of your lappy into your lap.
