    Hello NBR Readers

Something really weird happen to my laptop cooler this week.

I am currently using a Vantec Lapcool 4 notebook cooler with USB hub and this week it started to have random disconnect during USB transfer and fail to detect USB device.

I plug it in this morning and got this message.

I plug it into my other laptop and got the exactly the same message.

I went into my device manager and saw this giant list of USB hubs. I try deleting the USB hub and restart my computer. After reboot, Windows automatically detects everything I deleted but USB hub is still not working.

    Is my USB hub dead?

The fan is still working through USB connection.

    Any advice would be great.

VERY typical of a loss of power. This is, I bet if you turn the fans in the max and if you connect 4 usb devices that the pc would detect any of them. 1 usb port provides only 500mah of power in high mode. this means that 2 usb ports needs to provide power fans+card reader+hub+whatever you connect to the hub. it can't. only if the devices you connect needs very few power.
Note that there's are usb hubs with 4 ports AND 2 input cables (1power+data).
In this case it seams that even 2 usb ports are not sufficient. Understandable if you think that the cooler can draw 10watts of power.

There's no solution to your problem. The hub is working, it simply doesn't provide the power that the devices need. Try different configurations, try not using the fan, try just 1 or 2 devices and see if it works. It should work perfectly as long as it provides the needed power.
