I'm looking for something that I can place between the laptop and my lap. It is a 17" notebook and I don't necessarily need a cooler on it. It's not a gaming system, but it should have a flat surface for the air flow.

    What do you guys suggest?

A $10 lap desk from walmart.

A desk with a pillow attached to it basically.

You dont have to get an overpriced "computer" version, just get the food tray version its the same thing.

It can get hot with the "pillow" :D An in-bed type breakfast tray probably is better.

    cheers ...

No it cant, its on a flat solid wood surface.

One of these fits on your lap just fine, a breakfast tray needs room around you to work. I prefer this so I can adjust it the way I want it by moving my legs.

I did not mean the notebook would get hot. I meant your lap would get warm with the pillow material after a while :D

    cheers ...

and your still wrong, how do you thing the heat is going to travel through he wood/plastic that the desk is made of?

these are lap desks, not lap pillows.

With all respect, I think he mean that your lap get warm because there's no airflow to your lap :D. Just like when you cover yourself with a blanket.

Again, it had nothing to do with the heat transferring from the notebook to your lap! Pillow on any part of your body will eventually make you hot. Thick cloths on ... ;) on a warm day.

I used it myself before, and it can warm my lap up, unless I wear shorts, especially when the cloth material is cheap, plastic. It has nothing to do with the heat from the notebook.

    cheers ...

I guess that is subjective, I have air conditioning in my house and so never had a problem at all.

I guess if you went outside with it or have perspiration issues it may get you hot :D

Also probably depends on how/what its made out of, the one I have is a very porous almost like bean bag material so it does not insulate you but rather allows good airflow.
