I've heard of these being sold. I kinda always have to go back and forth around the world , and would always bring my laptop with me. Currently I have a HP dv6733tx with a 90W power brick, and this would be replaced by the Sager NP8690/W860CU in the coming month. I'd like to know just a couple of quick questions:

    1) If I were to get the adapter, the wattage matters right? What if I bought a lower wattage than the default one? Does it just run on optimised mode or something due to lower voltages? FYI, the NP8690 comes with a 120W brick.

    2) Let's say I bought one Airplane adapter. How do I go about connecting it inflight? To the chair? (does it even have a power socket?)

First of all I wouldn't recommend changing to a lower W adapter. Your NB need that power, especially Sager, power hungry NB.

I travel a lot in airplanes and I never saw a power socket near or in the chair. I never saw anyone use it, everyone is on batteries. But that doesn't mean they don't exist, somewhere in the plane. Never bothered to ask the staff. BTW. what do you mean by "Airplane adapter"?

    Here is one.

However, you will need to research whether the plane you may use has power sockets and, if so, which seats. Many airlines only provide power sockets for the seats near the front. But, if you have a big notebook, you will need to be in a spacious seat in order to have enough space to open the computer without it being squashed when the person in front reclines their seat.

A few airlines, such as Emirates, provide power sockets in economy class on some planes. The Emirates sockets are 110V 2 pin wich fit a normal main plug.

Ah okay, thanks for the answers. My laptop's 15.4" , and the airline company I always fly on (Malaysia Airlines) have pretty big seats anyway. But unfortunately I found out that they only have power sockets in the First and Business class, guess I don't have to buy one of these then.

    Thanks anyways :)

I read recently that Canad Air will be testing Internet to see if it will pay out. North America only anyway.

Air Canada will only offer the service between Toronto/Montreal and San Francisco/LA. Basically, only where they overfly the same network in the USA that is used by other carriers such as Virgin.

Air Canada has the Empower outlets on their refurbished interiors (B777, B767, A319/320/321, E90/E75, etc.). Unfortunately, they don't really work with the Dell 90W PA-10 type adaptor, but apparently, if you use the PA-8 adapter, it will work (just won't charge your battery though). In both economy and in executive (business) class.
