Hi, I recently purchased a laptop which is 15.4'' and approx. 7lbs. I am currently using the Wenger Synergy backpack to carry it around. I carry quite a bit of accessories that I might need (for eg: headphones, cables, disc's, books) though I am going lighter and lighter of late due to my shoulders and back feeling the load. The backpack is pretty good and worked well with my old laptop however this new laptop is a bit on the heavy side and I am wondering if someone can suggest a sturdy backpack which protects the back and the shoulders. I don't want to move to a carry-on or pull bag as I find these rather inconvenient and would like to stick to a backpack. I am not that familiar with the options out there except for the usual brands and am not quite sure what I should be looking for. A few searches and I have seen people mention a waist strap and some cushion but appreciate it if someone could provide a bit more details and recommendations. Obviously I would like it to be as cheap as possible but am willing to spend quite a bit if needed.

Try the TARGUS XL. I have it and I can tell you that it has tons of room. Plus it has a weight distributor belt to transfer the weight to you hips instead of your back.

Thx for the reply Phillip. Anyone else have a favourable review of the Targus.
Also has anyone tried the Kensington Contour Backpack. Is it favourable to the back and shoulders? Thx

I have seen this bag up close and it's GREAT I would have gotten one if I still could carry a backpack style bag:

And it is worth every penny of the truck load of penny's it costs...after buying quite a number of laptop bags over the years I can say the stuff from Tom Bihn is hands down some of the best made stuff I have ever used. Plus it all has a lifetime warranty (except for wear and tear of course.)

I have the Mobile Edge Express backpack and love it. It has plenty of pockets, well padded, and it doesn't have straps hanging all over the place. It's functional, comfortable, and isn't too utilitarian like many others. It has a more professional look (as professional as a backpack can be).

Targus backpacks are generally quite good, I have the Targus Slam Backpack-

    http://www.targus.com/au/product_details.asp?sku=RGS012

the only problem is that it is a little heavy (1.5kg), and with a notebook, textbooks etc, it can get fairly heavy. However it is very durable and has excellent support for the back and shoulders.

Kensignton Contour is what I have and it's pretty good. I manage to fit all my laptop stuff in it, along with a few textbooks and work documents. It has different compartments and I like that a lot since I can seperate food stuff and computer stuff.
Lots of padding and it has a back thing to distribute the weight of it all. Tons of straps too to help keep it it place.

Anyone used the contour backpack for a Compal Laptop. I am looking to get it from Amazon Featured Merchant Antonline for $47.53. Are there 2 versions of this backpack? If so how can I be sure that I am getting the one which everyone over here is mentioning. I have checked the model # and it is the same as on the kensington website. I didn't see another version of the same bag on their website. Thx

Kensington Contour Backpack is the best I've ever used. It has amazing adjustable back support which is just what you need. It has really soft, breathable shoulder straps that make heavy laptops more comfortable to carry. It has a lot of pockets too. Chech it out for yourself.

The Targus Urban Backpack is quite decent.
    A 3.2kg (7lbs) laptop, a couple of heavier books & some accessories won't be a problem.

If you really want to be on the safe side, I'd recommend you to visit a few stores and bring your laptop with you. :)

Hi, thx for your replies. Does anyone know which store is the Kensingont Contour backpack available locally (eg: Best Buy, Compusa, Staples, Circuit City). The one I see on the Compusa site looks different hence am not sure which Kensington Contour backpack is good. Thx

Well I bought the Kensington backup and received it however it is way to small for my laptop. The fit is pretty good and feels good on the back however it doesn't have enough room to fit in all the stuff I carry. Can someone be kind enough and recommend a bag for the compal Hel 80 laptop. I want something that would be easy on the back and shoulders and the bag should be roomy. I carry the laptop and books and hence I need a very roomy backpack. Thx
