    Hi,

I've just purchased a Dell XPS M1530 for college, and now I need a laptop bag.
The problem is, there are so many choices out there and I'm not too sure what is good and whats not :D .
First of all, what is more comfortable and safe? A backpack or a messenger bag?

I initially started searching for a backpack, but then I thought a messenger bag might be a better option, since its probably less bulky, and possibly easier when traveling on a train, and I'm also afraid I'm gonna 'forget' and leave my bag on the train, with a messenger I can keep it on my shoulder and there would be little chance of forgetting it.

I also came across a lot of different brand names and models, such as Wenger, Crumpler, Booq, Timbuk2 etc.

    Which bag would you recommend?
My biggest concerns with a bag that its durable and safe, both against the forces of nature and physics ;) and people who'd like to sneak in my bag and steal my laptop .
But a good looking and comfortable bag is pretty important as well :) .

BTW, is there anyway to put some kind of lock on a bag? Because most insurance companies only cover stolen items when some kind of lock has been breached/picked.

My budget would be somewhere around 40-100 euros for a bag, And I'm located in Holland.

Welcome to the club! I have been looking a backpack for the same laptop for around 3 months, and still haven't decided :D

Anyway, most people suggested the Wenger Swissgear Synergy / Targus (various models) / Logitech Kinetik (although many people complained about the turtle design)

Hope you decide soon (I know I won't). I'll keep an eye on this thread too.

    LOL! :D , My school starts in about 3 weeks, so I don't have 3 months to choose a bag :) .

Well I have to decide soon, I have to get one before 22th of August  .
Maybe you should just buy one :D , 3 months is a long time to look at laptop bags  , I mean its just a bag, its not even a laptop, even if one took 3 months to choose a laptop I still would think it would be a long time looking for a laptop, it actually took me about 2-3 weeks to decide to go for the Dell XPS, But I needed one fast for college :) .

BTW, Your Dell XPS has the exact same configuration as mine!

Well actually I have been waiting so long because I don't really need the backpack till October when I start University.

I like the Swissgear Synergy, but I think that it might be too bulky, big, heavy and with too many pockets for me.

I don't have the chance to see them in person so... I have to think very carefully :p (ordering online)

It surprises me that very little people are into the North Face laptop backpacks. They seem really suitable for college students who need to stack books in their bags and whatnot. They also don't look like laptop backpacks so they're not screaming "Steal me!"

The North Face Surge looks like a nice bag to me.

Do you own it? If so, could you please post pictures / movie if possible of the backpack?

    :D

I'm a fan of the Solo Urban line of bags. They have a backpack and 2 styles of messenger bags. Its a sort of army retro style canvas bag. Nice Corduroy lined pockets, metal clasp buckles. I like the olive green ones.

    Take a look HERE

    Well,

I'm still searching for a good bag, my mom did buy me a cheap standard 15,4 inch messenger bag, which seemed ok 'till I started biking with it, which didn't work at all :(

Anyway I'm still not sure which type of bag I need, that messenger bag didn't work too well on a bike, And I'm not sure any of them will, maybe I should look into backpacks...

Although I have heard some messenger bags can be strapped to the back, so it would be easier to take those on a bike.

Maybe I should just buy an Acer Aspire One or something lol, nice, light and tiny :D ... and cheap
