I have 17" DELL Inspiron 9400 (or e1705) and I'm looking at Vantec Lapcool 4 and Zalman ZM-NC1000 laptop coolers.

Here are photos (Lapcool 4 on left and Zalman ZM-NC1000 on right):

    Which one is better?

    There's also another problem. Zalman's cooler's dimensions are 308 (L) x 330 (W) mm and Vantec Lapcool's dimensions are 305 (L) x 245 (W) mm, while my laptop's dimensions are 394 (W) x 287 (W) mm.

Do you think laptop may not sit properly on. Is there any cooler big enough for my laptop. I'd like to buy absolute top of the line cooler.

Here you can see location of fans on my laptops bottom:

For me the top right hand corner of my e 1705 gets warm to hot so I have it elevated and based on your 2 options, Iwould recommend the lapcool 4.

I am very happy with my Vantec LapCool4.

I used to use Cooler Master NotePAL W1, very disappointed.

Thank you both for your answers. :)

Does your 17" laptop sit well on the lapcool 4?

I have a dv9000t which seems to get its hottest on the bottom 2/3, of the back of the laptop. The other coolers all seem to have the fans near the top. I got the Zalman NC-1000 and it is great. All of those little holes cools my CPU and HDD 10 C below what it was without a cooler. Right now my CPU is 21 C and the HDD is 28 C. The computer has been on for about 20 mins. I don't find the smaller size of the Zalman a problem. The laptop does not slide around on the cooler and it is about 1.25 inches narrower on both sides than the laptop. From what I've read about the other coolers in a number of reviews, the Zalman kicks ass and takes names. Not cheap though, $55 bones from Sharka.

It sits very stable and well for my 17" notebook that weighs 13 pounds. This notebook cooler is ideal for pretty much all notebook sizes, and is very portable, since it can fold up and be put into any notebook bag or backpack.

In that case Lapcool 4 would probably be better for my laptop, because e1705 gets hottest on the top 2/3.

Please post your impression on this cooler when you get it as I need one too for my E1705. The fans on the Lapcool 4 are located in the center so I'm not sure if that will be enough to cool the gfx card which's a little bit to the right side. I leave my fans on low all the time cause when I let the fans be controlled by the BIOS, the CPU and GPU temp. go up to 75 C sometimes when only doing light stuff while the power scheme is set to Portable/laptop. I'm debating whether I order 2 fans from DELL as a backup cause I leave them ON all the time or just go with this cooler.
What's the difference between those two:

Is it just the extra card reader in the first one?
Looks like there's a free bag with the second one too LOL, probably just a mistake.

Lapcool 4 fans seem to be in a good position to cool the CPU. If I put laptop a bit more forward gfx should also get some air.

As far as I know Lapcool 4 and Zalman ZM-NC1000 are the best and most expensive coolers on the market and Lapcool 4 still seems to have fans closer to both CPU and GFX than Zalman ZM-NC1000, which has fans more in front. Still it's a hard decision, because Zalman has larger cooling surface...
