Aaah...My XPS 1530 has been receiving high hot temps. as of late...and it hurts way to much to keep it on my lap.. :( I've done what I need to do to try and lower the temps (it's helped a bit).....

So, I'm going to need a laptop cooler..finally.

Any recommends? I would like one that's *comfy* for use on my lap. That is where I mainly keep my lappy when using! I'm at my desk maybe 3 times a week, and my 1530 is a 15.4".

I come to all of you for help finding something now! ;) I would like something under $50/max.

Thank you, in advance for comments/suggestions..! ;) :D

    Cin ;) :)

Zalman coolers tend to be quite favorable among NBR members, but also check out Coolmaster and Silverstone.

We've got a few cooler reviews that you may find useful at http://notebook-cooling.com/ :)

I actually had one of these before and I wouldn't advise on purchasing one for the following couple reasons:

    1. It blocks the intake openings underneath the laptop, hence limiting the necessary airflow required to keep your laptop cool.

    2. Once the pad has fully absorbed all the heat it can take, it needs to be cool before using it again.

none of the suggestions so far seem to be very appropriate for what cin's targeted use is for. what i would recommend is something like the lapinator. it's pretty hard to find an effective, active, cooler. u will be very limited in yur choices if u want somethin that will be primarily used on yur lap.

I have read that some people use the Zalman NC2000 on their laps, but mine is still being shipped so I can't confirm.

The lapinator seems like an alternative, though.

Have you taken your laptop apart and blown out the fans and vents lately? There shouldn't be any reason for your laptop to just spontaneously start getting uncomfortably hot, and a cooler will only mask the symptoms, not cure the actual cause. When you say you've "done what you need to do" to lower temperatures, what exactly does that entail?

I suspect either dust buildup or old ineffective thermal paste. Have you checked both of these, and have you tried the copper mod on your M1530's GPU?

Yes, that is what I did. And, it's helped a bit (bringing the temps down).

But, with the heat..that I do receive I still need a nice cooler/lapstand to place my lappy on..for protection, comfort, and better ergonomics :)

And, thanks everyone for your kind suggestions..I will be taking a look at the ones listed by all of you above!

cin, if u do decide to go this route, with a lapdesk-type of set up. i would definitely get somethin that will elevate yur laptop in the rear. although a normal flat lapdesk set up would provide more comfort, it doesn't help with the cooling. if i were u, i would definitely get the lapinator, or somethin similar. it provides extra comfort while usin yur laptop on yur lap, and acts as a passive cooler. the lapinator also has an add-on extension that attaches to the base of the lapinator. the add-on gives u extra room to use a mouse or take notes too.

Cin, I posted a review of the NC2000 if you are still undecided. Maybe it will help you with your decision. Zalman NC2000 Review
