Well the title says it all, im fed up with cooking in bed, and want one that will work well on my lap. ie one that will be comfortable to use, and not block up the fans underneath or something.
Im not looking for anything fancy, 4 port usb hubs or anything, just something that will work well in this situation, and it quite.

Any ideas?, I know there is the lapcool2, any many others in this range, whats the best?........any would they work on my lap?.......it is a laptop after all, but many seem to be designed for use on a desk, kinda stupid when it's being used on the lap when heat bothers people lol.

    Many Thanks

Acually, most companies stopped using the term "laptop" after a girl got burned by having it on her lap. Now they usually use the term "notebook", just like this website(notebookreview.com). Though, most of the notebooks I have had were not so hot that it is uncomfortable. Maybe I have a low pain thresh.

Anyway, to answer your question, you can buy a cooler from walmart for $25.99. I am not sure how well it works, then again I woulden't spend my money on any of them most likely. Oh yeah, don't buy one if it doesn't have fans... if you are going to buy one that doesn't have fans, you can use 2 books instead.

In my opinion -- notebook coolers are a gimmic,

I use the xpad (google it) for my laptop. It's pretty decent, but awkward since I have the extended battery on my Compaq which sticks out extra.

They are not a gimmic. I run F@H 100% cpu usage on my lappy 24/7. Putting it on a cooling pad reduces the temps by 10 degrees celcius easy.

I have a targus cooler but there are many nice brands. Read the reviews and make sure it's the right size for your laptop.

Well, notebook, laptop, what ever it's call I like to use it on my lap / in bed. If I wanted to sit at a desk all day long I wouldn't have bought a notebook lol.

Im sure they are not gimics also, I have seen stats in reviews etc, and I would never buy one with out fans!. Just some extra airflow has to help as it stops it pooling there.

Thanks for the advice people, the only thing I am concerned about is.... if its on my lap, will it block the underside air intake for the notebook cooler?

sukjeffrey, thats the one I was looking at also, not too sure about the intakes at the bottom though, as worried about blocking them, humz.

Oh, just read somewhere else that they suck air away, so it would blow the hot air down onto my legs,, not exactly what I wanted! :|, so I guess I need one that blows the air out the back or something... any ideas?!

    Many Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Matt

Cheers for the link ghsoccer4, looking at the pics it does not look too nice for use on the lap though.

The Vantec Lapcool3 seems to be my best bet right now as it has the exhaust vents at the back....i have read mixed reviews, but a number of good ones.

The one I have (Targus) sucks air in from under the lappy and exhausts it away; out the back. It also has a small deflector so it blows a tiny amout of air towards the laptop lower intake vent.

Being a hard flat surface the rubber feet of the laptop will keep it spaced away from the cooling pad enough for air to circulate between the two; assuming it's the right size.

Sounds good, similar to the lapcool3. Do you have the Chill Mat / Hub?, I guess thats the one, I can't find anything about the deflector, that sounds like a smart idea.

Im torn between the Targus Chill Mat and the Lapcool3.

I have the Chill Mat, the two little indents above the fans blow just a little air back up at the laptop. I don't think the newer ones do that; not that it matters.
