I am looking for a great performing laptop cooler for my newly acquired Alienware M17x R2....I currently use a Zalman 2000 for my MSI and am very happy with it.....but was wondering if there is anything out there now that is as good at actual cooling...big enough to handle the monstrous size of the m17x and perhaps looks cool......I have seen a couple cool looking Thermaltakes with LED fan lighting etc...but not sure if they actually do a good job at cooling...I'm looking forward to any suggestions! Thanks!

I use a Thermaltake with my 17" MSI right now and it works pretty well. hey don't make the one I have anymore but it has one big fan in the middle which is dead silent. You can't hear it running even if your tried. You can tell it was made of good quality with it's thick metal construction. You can control the lighting by changing the colors or turning it off completely. It doesn't really make a difference to me though since you can't see it unless the room is dark.

the zalman NC line of coolers is pretty "middle of the pack" when it comes to actual cooling performance. 2 reasons why i would go with another active cooler for a "gaming" laptop, or for someone that will be using their computer's hardware intensively. 1) the Zalman doesn't push enough CFM's (airflow). 2) most mid-top tier laptops have their GPU and CPU vents towards the rear of the laptop. the Zalman units focus their air towards the front of the laptop, so your 2 most important things that need to be cooled will not be getting air focused on it.

Thanks for the heads up! Hey I see you have a Cryo LX cooler in your sig....I actually would buy that in a second as I have read that they are fantastic at cooling....however, they have been out of stock everywhere...including the NZXT website for months...are they discontinued?

i believe so. at first, some speculated that NZXT was going to put out a "Cryo LX 2.0" with a few improvements after the discontinuation. nothing really followed that though.

u might have some luck with the Coolermaster SF-19 (2 bigger fans) or the U3 (3 movable smaller fans).
