Yeah I agree the Notepal U3 sounds really good. If I buy a cooler, that's my first choice. :)

I have the U3 for my 17R4 and it fits perfectly. The 18 will hang off the sides a little bit by about a half inch on either side. Height wise should be pretty close from edge to edge. If you do not mind the small overlap I would recommend this thing to anyone because of the versatility. The U3 is really nice, being able to move the fans right where you need them blowing on the laptop is awesomeness!

hi mates, i've just bought this laptop cooler from zalman eBay Italia - Aste online e shopping a prezzo fisso

I haven't found any review on it, but it comes with the same fan (with speed regulation) as previous and well known models nc3000 series.
It's quite cheap and comes with an aggressive line, it will fit also 17.3" laptop (my msi gx660 it's 15.6).
Not really ideal to carry since it's steel and not aluminium but i found it interesting since i don't need to move it.
I'll report here my impressions when received...

So, i've bought and received my zalman zm-nc11 laptop cooler and i'll subsequently post some pictures including some prime 95 screenshots, but here's my first impressions:

the product is well done, really stilish and aggressive, it comes with "professional" gaming look, well fitted for gaming laptop.
Dimensions are quite huge, my msi gx660 is 15.6 inches but no problems for bigger laptops (some doubts for really big ones like alienware m18x but the product is officially rated up to 17.3 inches), the laptop cooler is rated for 1,15kg weight, so not really light nor easy to carry on with you if needed.
The 220mm fan can be manually regulated in a range from 620rpm to 720rpm, remaining really silent: it provides 90cfm on a large steel surface.
The laptop stays firmly on the zalman, since it has a rubber "antislick" strip, there are no vibrations on keyboard coming from the pad even with fan at max speed.
The cooling results are on average, with a range of 2-3 degrees of benefit, so nothing really impressive, it could help sometime delay the rpm raising of the laptop system fan but don't expect something more (i'm quite convinced that these kinda products can't impress in general, mostly if the laptop comes with a native good cooling solution).
Lastly, i like the ergonomy since i find quite relaxing using the keyboard for long sessions without fatigue.
    Ciao!

I had a Notepal U3. It worked out great at first, but the rubber covers always fell off and eventually the cats ran off with them. This made using it pretty uncomfortable in bed and scratch up my desk a lot. The fans break easily too, which is why I currently dont have a cooler. They are attached by a wire that snapped, but prior to snapping two of the fans completely just stopped working. I'm on the go a lot, so it just wasn't the best buy for me.

Nice review. But then I've long liked laptop coolers with a single BIG fan. And a 9" fan is a really BIG laptop cooler fan! :)

You can find the Zalman ZM-NC11 on Amazon/USA, but there are only 2 owner comments (both 5 stars) and they don't say much. However Newegg has 10 owner comments at: ZALMAN High Performance Notebook Cooler Model NC11 - Newegg.com

FWIW I found the 1 and 2 star comments suspect; meaning that the unit likely deserves an overall rating higher than 3 stars.

FWIW I own 3 different Cooler Master single fan units:
    1. Cooler Master Notepal D-Lite (5.2" fan)
    2. Cooler Master Notepal X-Lite (5.2" fan)
    3. Cooler Master Notepal X-Slim (6.0" fan)

I like the Cooler Master Notepal D-Lite (5.2" fan) best, but that's because I use it on my lap when sitting on a stool. It has sharp rear edges (plastic), which help prevent it from sliding off my legs. I got my 1st one from Amazon at $10, then bought the others (#2 and #3 above).

I then discovered that the D-Lite was discontinued (no longer on Amazon) but found it on ebay for $20. :)

I see that the D-Lite is back on Amazon, but now priced at $30. :(
