So I just got my 17" laptop and i realized when i'm on my couch, it's a bit uncomfortable with the laptop just on my lap. Do they make anything to put on your lap and the laptop on top of that to make it easy to use?

Most office supply stores and Best Buy sell laptop desks, often laptop desk/cooler combos. The latter improves airflow (and cooling) while keeping the laptop away from your lap/legs a bit, too.

I've had a lap desk in the past and it worked fine. But the more durable and functional solution- a thick wooden cutting board. If it gets uncomfortable having a wooden slab directly on top of my legs, a folded towel or a bed pillow works perfectly.

I have an iLap. I rarely use it, but that sort of thing might work out for you. It's ludicrously expensive for a piece of bent aluminium with some velvet tacked onto it (especially if you happened to pay retail like I did ), but it does happen to work pretty well.

Brookstone e-pad. There's actually a bit too much cushion in it so it elevates the laptop just a bit too much for my liking.

My wooden cutting board solution was actually rather pricey, too....it's a 'Pampered Chef' cutting board....God forbid I use it to cook, had to put it to use somehow! :p

And by the way, that LapDog stand is a ripoff from LapWizard. You can read the review that Rich Caporali and I wrote on the LapWizard here:

Either way, I'm glad that the Originating Poster has several options of lap desks to look at, from all the links and suggestions posted in the thread! ;)

I just use my pillow to keep the lappy at an elevation and to make it comfortable in use.

I think the cutting board idea is good. You could also try an upside down breakfast tray.
