New to the site, thanks for having me firstly.

I am in a situation where I am trying to find the perfect laptop cooler for my certain model. I have a Dell Latitude e6510. The air vents are a little different then most common laptop models.

I will be using my laptop in my lap 90% of the time so I'm trying to find a good laptop cooler that fits my design and my lap. I saw the MASTER COOLER u3, that would be perfect but I read a lot of complaints saying it's not good to sit in your lap.

Here is a picture of the design on the back for my model:

Well first off a Cooler Master U3 was not designed in the first place to be used on a lap. There are two types of laptop cooling pads. The first ones are the common ones that are used on flat surfaces that helps the laptop gain airflow by being at an angle and then using fans to either exhaust out hot air or intake in more cold air. The U3 and many others are the desktop ones.

What you are looking for are ones that designed to work on laps as well desks. Those coolers has the same idea in design as the ones used on flat surfaces. However, they often are designed with some intent to also work on laps and they rely on the passive angle cooling than using a number of fans.

This particular one is often the choice for people who use their laptops on their laps:

Yeah, I saw that cooler. I borrowed a Antec Notebook Cooler from a friend and it seems ok when I have it in my lap. When it's on idle, it drops almost 10c down. That Targus has only 2 small fans at the top in the middle, the Antec has them in the middle.

Do you have any input vs. one anther?

    Thanks for the replies...

I used the Antec Notebook Cooler before and it was alright but not the best. I seem to have issues gripping the laptops I use with it properly and it was flat. Since I rarely use a lap-based cooling solution, I would only know for certain the Targus is suited for the job from numerous personal accounts from other users regarding it.

I've tried to use various coolers on my lap before and there's just too much movement for it to be a long term solution. They're perfect for use on a work surface, or even a carpeted floor or bed (where you wouldn't normally use your laptop). On the lap, either the laptop starts sliding off the cooler or the cooler starts sliding off your lap.

As far as performance, they all do the job well in that they provide a path for cooler air to cycle through the laptop than simply recycling its own heated air that was already vented out.

Can anyone input on how well the Targus Chill Matt works? CPU heat drops? If so how much does it drop when sitting idle. Thanks a lot. I think I might buy and try the Chill Matt. Would be nice to know how well it performs tho.

You could always get a lap desk and still use a cooler like the U3
