Is there a keyboard light that sits on the top edge of the display directed at the keyboard that is powered by the laptop?
In dark areas it's blinding to see the keys.

I dunno about the top of the display, but I'm sure they make something similar that may be directed at the keyboard assuming you have a USB port near the back of your machine.

Yes, there are a lot of these kind of options available online and at computer retailers. eBay sells them for very cheap.

Kensington makes one called FlyLight (meant to be used on airplane) and it has a gooseneck for easy adjustment.

You could but the Saitek Eclipse keyboard for a mere 40 bucks, and it has a back light the is adjustable with Bright, Dim, and off.

I've actually got one of them that I was given as a Christmas gift along with some money from a relative. It looks as though its rather cheap as it has no name branded on it and is somewhat generic. It hooks up through USB which it draws power from and then illuminates whatever you bend it towards with a rather bright white LED. It has a flexi-neck so it can be angled however you want it to be. Originally, I had it hooked up to the back of my Nintendo Wii just for the fun of it. I've never used it with my laptop though!
