Im looking for a new backpack for my laptop(11 inch so its not a problem)
    Looking for comfort...budget 70USD and from ebags.com

    I am currently deciding between

The North Face Recon backpack or Timberland ® Acehigh Dual Compartment Backpack

Any other suggestions? Will be used for school...maybe 4-5 books so hopefully not too bulky(water resistant is a must)

    Try looking at SwissGear backpacks.

My English teacher carries a 11-14 inch laptop and she carries a couple of books and folders piled with student papers, and she still can fit a mouse, the laptop and the AC Adapter.

    Doesn't look to big either.

+1 on the SwissGear backpacks. I have several, including the Synergy, and I love them.

Lots of space. Durable. Light. Frequently on sale.

I know tons of people who have the Recon, and it's a pretty good backpack overall although I am not sure about how thick the laptop padding is. It also has a ton of straps and stuff, which personally I think is overdoing it a bit (a bit too high school or college-y for me, and I want a more professional look).

I don't like any of the laptop backpacks out there.

Instead of looking for the perfect *laptop* backpack, get the perfect laptop case (brain cell). When you have your laptop protected inside one of those, you are free to put it inside any kind of backpack/satchel/duffle bag you want, as long as its big enough to hold the brain cell.

I've heard some good things about the Zeroshock III sleeves.

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e?url=search-alias=electronics&field-keywords=zeroshock+3

The inside is lined with some sort of memory foam.
I think there is a review somewhere here on NBR... Can't find it though.

I have the ubuntu-branded Ogio Metro Backpack. It's excellent, separate padded area for the laptop which makes for easy access to your machine. The other slots are also good for storage - the main area of the bag is pretty big.

I've carried XPS M1330, Dell Mini9 and IBM T61 widescreen (15.4" I think) without a problem (sometimes all three together!). There's a pocket where I keep my iPod, one for cables, one for memory cards and even one I use for an old-fashioned thing called an "umbrella"!

I would say you will struggle to get a 17" into this, though.

They also have a Messenger bag - I'd say the quality matches the backpack and it claims to go to 17":
