I don't follow? So you want it to function as a backpack or a messenger bag? Or do you want part of the bag to break off from the rest and become a messenger bag? Or what?

Those are not bad! Out of all of them, I would go with the Victorinox..it's a streamlined, nice looking bag! It would blend well with everything, and is very roomy for a *duo* type bag! :)

145 for a nice bag like that is really not such a big deal... sorry to say but you're going to be hard pressed to find what you want. You get what you pay for.

You should take a look at how you intend to use your laptop. I have a friend that owns one of these and he rarely opens it up over his lap (works in front of a desk mostly) or on a table (takes a lot of space). The concept is nice, but make sure it works for you. Also think about how a bag full of accessories feels across your lap.

The Slappa Matrix that Zfactor recommended to me is awesome for both carrying laptops(super sized ones like my 12 pound XPS) and other stuff(a big bottle of soda, some clothes, mouse, external hdd and some cd`s and books :D)

I have to walk around alot so a backpack is nice as a messenger bag is starting to destroy my shoulder but I also like to lay in the park and spend most of the day in a desk which would make a open up bag neccesary

    I need both. Trust me.

Like said, I believe there must be a cheaper bag out there.

Less expensive versions of the same Shaun Jackson Design bags, in case you only need the smaller size.

You never specified which size or bag you are looking for and if you look closely not all stores are selling for the same prices as you can see here for the different size Shaun Jackson bags. Please put in a little bit of effort, but if you do insist, PM me your Name, SS#, CC#, DOB, Billing address etc. & I will also order it for you :D

Some advice from someone who has a lot of bags. You will get what you pay for. compare the fabric and check the Shaun Jackson web site to see if there is a retailer near you to physically check the bags out before buying. Also,....

    1. More expensive bags usually will be made of Ballistic Nylon instead of cheaper less durable materials.
    2. Same can be said for the zippers, seaming quality and strap construction. Yes, the strap's construction as well as strap spacing will make a big difference in comfort.
    3. More expensive bags will usually have a coating on the inside making it water resistant.
    4. Expensive bags will more times than not carry a better warranty. For instance I've already had my Tom Bihn Brain bag repaired under warranty and another $200 backpack replaced 3 times for defects/failures. The 4th one just got delivered & I see the same defects possibly developing, but they will let me use it & see if it has to get replaced again. You usually can't get that kind of service buying a $50 bag.

Good luck and let us know how the bag is if you buy it.

Well this bag is more for from home-bus-school and reverse order. I have another messenger bag Targus which I use now but it destroys my shoulder so I want a backpack type bag but with the ability to open.

I wonder if eBay has something.
If you know any more bags, go ahead and post please. Thanks :)
