Hi
I have an idea to make a laptop case that is neoprene on one side (like those slimline macbook ones) and hard on the other (probably made with plastic). The aim of this would be to provide a hard desk like surface for laptop users in places where there isn't a desk eg on your bed. This hard surface would aid air circulation and hopefully make the overall experience more pleasant for the user as the laptop shouldn't keep getting as hot. On the hard side it can me customised to consumers taste with a wacky design or a photo of their family.
This could even be an executive gift for corporates and be branded with their company logo. Business opportunity aside, I thought I'd post on here to get feedback from laptop users as whether you'd be interested in this product or wether you've seen something similar. I have done research on this and not found anything matching exactly what I have in mind although there are some bulkier versions with bits coming off the side for your mouse. My idea involves them being extremally portable and could even be used for non computer things such as drawing where you have no desk to lean on, along with a strap.
What do you think of this idea? Please give me feedback both good and bad.
Many Thanks
Charlie

I think it's a good idea. Some thoughts about it:
- Would it have a soft plush surface on the interior side?
- Will it be able to separate the soft part of the case from the hard one? (Zipper maybe?)
- Could it have some kind of device (think something like a balloon) on the inside of the hard surface so that it can be inflated for additional comfort when using on your lap?
- Or maybe the hard part could actually be made of two plastic elements that can be deployed as a regulated stand? (Think wedge style)
- Could one of the customization options be a surface similar to those of laptop coolers as to provide even better cooling? (Holes, grills, etc.)
- Could the hard part be used as a tray or will it be 2D only?
These things are not necessarily compatible between each other. They may not even be desirable. But I believe thinking as much options as possible is the way to go.
Of course, the obvious things like waterproofing, impact resistance, interior lining on the zippers, etc. still apply.
Hope this helps you! -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
what I would is the following:
2 aluminum plates
1 neoprene sleeve
attach the aluminum plates to the neoprene sleeve and you are done -
They already make something like this,

Laptop case idea - I'd really appreciate some feedback
