    Hello to everybody!
I am looking for something that will stay on my laptop whether open or closed that will protect it from scatches, some call it skins or sleeves i guess.
I have an acer aspire 1690wlmi (15.4" screen)
Price not a biggy, quality is more important.
    Any help will be appreciated.

i haven't heard of anything that stays on the computer while it's open except for dell's quicksnap thingies. i thought "sleeve" etc. were for protections while transporting? i could be wrong.

There are bags that are sleeves but you can unzipper it across the sides until the back, and on the croners, it has small rubber clamps that hold your laptop in place..

It's really awkward looking and blocks ventilation though..

Ahhh, that's the one I was referring to.

Taking a second look, it's pretty well ventulated..

    But again, it seems awkward...

I can't directly link you because its a flash site, but if you go to http://crumpler.co.uk/2.0/site.html - click on bags, and then laptop bags - then click on 'The Slip'

The Slip will prevent the screen from being scratched while your laptop is closed. It also acts as a nice mousemat. In addition, if you have a look at 'The Gimp' i'm sure they'd both go hand in hand! :)

EDIT: By the looks of your sig, you're already a Crumpler fan ;) !

Thanks for the help everybody. I settled on a very nice carrying bag but what i am looking for is a permanent or a snap on protector for the top of the screen because the silver finish is not scratch proof at all!

if ur looking for one with good ventiliation, the vaio site has like neoprene cases, but if u go to like a mmicro center or place that carries alot of bags they have neoprene ones made for ibooks (with the handles) and there is a zipper on the front all the way to the sides and then on on the back that is like 9 inches long to let the handle pop out for carrying it
if u have a normal notebook, not an ibook, then that zipper in the back is great for ventilation when it is open

I think I know what you are lokking for...they do make "skins" for laptops at this site www.skymobile.com..they come in only 4 colors, blue, lavender, pink, and green...Put they on the cover of the laptop to protect it from wear and tear,
