Im not sure how well my new DV2000t (14" wide) can take pressure, but I want to get a case that I can stuff into my backpack with books.
Do you guys think a soft case is enough or do you think a hard or semi hard case like a zeroshock would be good enough?
I spent the last 45 minutes reading through the posts and it makes me wonder why they don't just make a nice basic plastic box like 13.5" x 9.5" x 2" with neoprene lining >_<
One of the biggest problems I had with transporting my IBM T20 was the screen would come in contact with the palm rest causing scuffs to the screen. I most definitely don't want that on the shiny screen >_<
If at all possible, I want to spend about $20...

I just bought a WaterField sleeve and I am really happy with it. It is very high quality and durable. I'm not sure if it will fully meet your needs but I recommend checking it out.

How easy is it to push on the back of the display and cause ripples on the screen? The display is the component most vulnerable to damage.
Are you proposing to use an ordinary backpack or a computer backpack? The latter type usually has a padded compartment which will give your computer reasonable protection.
With a normal backpack, if you place the computer in a neoprene sleeve and then put it in the backpack with the screen against your back (where backpacks usually have some padding) then I think you will be OK, provided you remember to put the computer the right way round.

It doesn't ripple as easily as my thinkpad but I do feel some give.
I would hope to use a normal backpack simply because I usually carry one around. However, the shape of a normal backpack might be unproductive to the safety of the screen.
Almost tempted to ghetto-mod a hard safety compartment -
Targus backpack. End of story

i would highly consider booqbags.com
they are having a closeout on their semi-rigid sleeves right now at $4.99! before, it was around $50 -
Never a sleve unless you combine it with a hard case! The sleeve does so little to protect against falls or bangs. take my advice. my M45 has some major abuse on its corners.

there are other products similar to this. -
I think keyboard covers do not allow the heat to escape from the top. They kinda trap the heat inside.
I think a screen microfibre cloth is better. -
what i linked to is very similar to microfiber.....but why does heat matter? this is only used when you close your notebook.

unfortunately no. i don't take my notebook anywhere, so i don't have a need for one. but it is very similar to the shaggymac, which may have a review here or there if you look around for it.
