I just ordered a m17x r3 and am looking for a nice backpack for college that will not only fit the R3 well but will also have space left for the powerbrick , mouse, books etc... I want the backpack to be good looking. The Targus XL seems huge but it looks ugly. I am looking at the Wenger Swissgear IBEX and the Slappa Velocity Pro Matrix or Spyder. I like the Slappa the best but it seems too small from pics, can anyone who has one of those comment on the capacity. The IBEX seems perfect if it is larger than the Slappa(it seems so from pics but dimensions show they are almost the same size, dont understand). Priorities are size and looks. I want the backpack to be nice and roomy.
    Thanks for your help/

Swissgear/Wenger Ibex. I love mine. I've been using it for two years and it still looks and works like it's brand new (and, I used to go through a backpack every 6 months.)

Other options are the Alienware Orion and Astro Scout. Using the Orion and it's been reliable so far.

Ok, how large are the Orion and the Ibex. @Hirohata how much space left in the Orion after you put you laptop inside. ElBlufer same question for you.

Well, I've fit a clarinet case in the other pocket with my laptop, a book, a magazine, and a few other things in there on the plane. It's plenty big :D

Okay the IBEX is currently my top choice but i am still waiting for an opinion on the SLAPPA Velocity Pro, it seems to be the same size in specs but in pics it looks small, if the SLAPPA is roomy enough i will get that for it looks amazing. Also I guy with the m17x R2 complained that his IBEX was not wide enough and the zipper scratched the metal coating on the corners of the R2 by being in contact with it, that really scares me as the R2 had a Aluminum shell and if that got scratched i am scared what will happen to plastic soft touch finish of my R3. ElBlufer is the IBEX wide enough?? The R3 is 12" wide.

Just measured the pocket. It should fit 12" wide.

Thanks + rep. The pocket seems it is wide enough, but the backpack is narrower at the top isn't it, the R3 is also 16" tall and i think at the top the sides might get in contact with the zipper.

At 16" tall, it'll still fit, but it might be a tiny bit tight (about 12.1" wide at 16" tall)

The R2 as actually the same height but wider than the R3 at 12.6inches, the R3 is 11.9inches. The R3 might fit well.

Also, it's a briefcase instead of a backpack. Backpacks = far superior for mobility.

    Ok I think I found the one - Newegg.com - Wenger 17" PEGASUS Computer Backpack Model GA-7306-06F00
It is just like the IBEX but only taller, so the problem with corners should not be there. But it has 2 lesser compartments and no hole for headphones, but as i dont have an Ipod and use my iphone for music, and my phone is never in the backpack. What do you guys think about it?? From the specs it is the same size as the IBEX so it is not smaller, just has lesser compartments.
Tom, thanks for the suggestion but i am looking for a backpack only, i will be using it for college.

There's very little space in the Pegasus bag. If you read the reviews, you'll hear about people having to choose between their laptop and a second textbook.

Perhaps you're right...I must have been thinking of another wenger laptop I was looking at for my brother. That main pocket does look smaller, though.

Hmm after you said it i checked out a couple of pics and the Pegasus does seem to be lacking in width. Anyone out here have both of these??

I can also carry my NZXT Cryo LX and maybe 2 textbooks after that. Probably more without the cooler. With space to spare in the front most pocket.

I can confirm that the Pegasus us definitely smaller than the Ibex. The Pegasus is slightly taller but lacks in width. More space with the Ibex.

So Orion also seems like a good option, will add that to my list too. Ruled Pegasus out as it seems smaller than the Ibex. So it is between the Orion, Ibex and the Slappa Velocity.
I just wanted to stay away from the Orion as i did not want to advertise that i have a AW computer, also i'd seem like a fanboy. :p

I have an M17x R1 and R2. I also have an Ibex, Pegasus and a Synergy back pack. I would not recommend any of them for the M17x R1 or R2 systems. I also dont believe you would be happy with the Ibex and the R3. I suggest the Orion. I use an older Dell XPS Backpack that was made for the M1730 and I love it but its hard to come by as its been discontinued for a while.

Has anyone tried the Targus A7 17" Backpack?

The reviews on the 16" version of the A7 seem to be very good, so I'm guessing the 17" would be just as good, assuming that it can hopefully hold the M17x R3.

^^Haven't tried it personally, but I have used a Targus backpack in the past, and they are nice, durable & roomy..beside being a good reliable brand. :)
