I know that most laser printers are pretty big and take up alot of space and are on the heavy side, but are there laser printers that are slimline or take up little space and don't weigh much.

If so can someone give me a few names. I would like either black and white or color no preference laser printer that i can transport around and that does not take up a lot of space and is fairly slim and light.

    Thanks.

When you say "transport around", there are no laser printers that are truly portable.

But there are some that are relatively small and light. I like my hp laserjet 1300n. Price was right, print quality is great, and it even has a JetDirect ethernet port so all my computers can print directly to it. Has upgradable RAM memory too. Very reliable and has never jammed. Supports PostScript printing. Small and light enough to use in a college dorm room. Very nice printer for the money.

I've had bad luck with cheap Samsung laserjets. Crappy output, toner cart costs more than the whole printer did, and it jams frequently. Doesn't support industry standard PostScript (has it's own 'SPL' Samsung Printer Language). Also uses weirdo proprietary drivers. A crappy printer.

Lupin is right - there aren't any truly PORTABLE laser printers. I didn't mention that.

If you want a PORTABLE printer, you'll look at Canon Bubblejets, they make ones the size of UMPCs that can connect via BT or Wi-Fi, run on battery, and accept one sheet at a time. ;)

I did hear recently about some tech to significantly shrink the size of lasers, but we probably won't see it for a couple years, and I don't know if it's going to make things portable small, or just tuck it away in a corner small.

HP 1018 is pretty small. It's 14 inch by 9 inch, and 9 inches tall.

Not going to be portable, but inexpensive (less than $100), printouts look nice, and easily plugs right into your network. I got one of these for my day-to-day printing rather than wasting all the ink in the AIO we have at home. If it did duplex, it would be perfect, but for that price, there's not much more to ask for.
