My friend has a HD Pavilion DV2000. His LCD is having a strange problem. We cannot see anything on the screen in night and in day, we can see it hardly. Its screen is kind of old Nintendo gameboy, which requires home lights and cannot see in dark. Any idea whats going on? I never came through this type of problem.

    Thanks

Sounds like the backlight or inverter is dead. You'll have to replace the screen I'd say.

Can I just fix that backlight or I need to replace the LCD?

The backlight contains mercury vapor. So if you break the bulb, you'll be in trouble. You can do it yourself but I'd advice against. The inverter is more simple to replace. Is the laptop still under warranty?

    Thanks

I advice you to buy another laptop instead of trying to fix your old laptop LCD. Why go all this mess to save a few bucks without guaranty that it will last for another year?
At this point it is more practical to buy a new one... go treat yourself a little man, give your old HP a rest. :)

But.. I'm curious, How long since you bought your old HP by the way? You previously answered that it doesn't have any warranty? So I guess its morethan 2-3 years already?
    Good luck to you man.

Definitely a faulty backlight or inverter. Inverters are relatively easy and inexpensive to replace, so I would try that first. If it doesn't work, then it's the backlight, and those are hell to replace; you'd be better off just replacing the whole display panel.

If Im about to replace the whole LCD then why not practice a surgery on that LCD? When can I get those backlight stuff?
