    Hi,

On my old laptop I used to use, the Shinza sleeve I got on it was fantastic. It was discrete and easily slid in and out of any backpack easily without much notice.

I was wondering if anyone knew if the T400 with the 9cell would fit inside the 15inch shinza sleeve. http://shinza.com/product_info.php?cPath=5_10_15&products_id=72

The dimensions of the notebook I got off a random website is
    Dimensions (WxDxH): 13.2 in x 9.4 in x 1.3 in for the T400 with the 4cell
    http://www.superwarehouse.com/Lenovo_ThinkPad_T400_7417_Notebook/7417TPU/p/1536685

This forum discussion details how much the 9cell sticks out.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=13811

Going by the length of the notebook, it would seem that the total length would be around 10.9 inches whereas the sleeve is 10.8 max.

However someone mentioned here that it was 10.7" lengthwise.
Does anyone have any experience with finding sleeves for extended batteries?

Also what happens to the one inch space around the sides? Does your laptop usually slide around then?

    Regards,
    Brian

The 15.4" T61 with a 9 cell battery fit in that sleeve perfectly. Your 14.1" T400 should do it with extra space all around.

Is extra space in a laptop sleeve a bad thing? Or will it be alright.
[I'm looking at putting a T400 in there as well.]

If you don't mind the laptop sliding around a little (but just a little), then it's no big deal. *shrug* I'd be more worried about a 13" laptop in a 15" sleeve..

Ok. I'll plan on gettting the Shinza ZeroShock 15 inch sleeve. Now I just have to find one...

Someone on a different forum directed me to ebay and someone is selling them. I think you might be able to find it in some random specialty shops but it wont be easy to find. I guess i'll give the 15" a shot.

Ebay. There's a seller that i've dealt with before. No issues.

maybe you could provide a link to the case on ebay? I've tried searching for it but get 0 results.

http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/yap2528 Take your pick. Ignore the laptop models in the title, all the sleeves of the same size are identical.

Alternatively, I'm thinking about selling my barely used 15" sleeve since I no longer have a 15" laptop that requires one.

thanks. i guess i was including "shinza" in my search, so that's why it was coming up empty.

    EDIT:
I was looking around, and it seems the 14.1" shinza sleeve might be a better fit for the thinkpad t400, even with the 9-cell battery.
From this site: http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=13811 , it gives the following information:
That means the length would be less than 10.4", which is still less than the dimensions listed for the shinza case on ebay: W13.4 x D1.6 x H10.6 inch.

So maybe the 14.1" sleeve would be a better choice for the Thinkpad T400, even including the 9-cell battery.

Perhaps. I used the 14.1" sleeve with a non-widescreen 14.1" Thinkpad with a 9 cell battery (deeper than the T400) and it fit great. I'd probably try the 14.1" and just return and order the 15" if it doesn't fit or something.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm my predictions about the T400 with 9 cell battery fitting inside a shinza 14.1" sleeve. I'd rather get things right on the first try, without having to return stuff through ebay.

I think another member already confirmed that a T400 with 9 cell will not fit in a Shinza 14.1" sleeve. Try the search function and see what you come up with.

I looked around the forums and found this one thread that briefly talked about the T400 w/ 9-cell and a 14.1" Shinza: here.

Here's the direct quote that was most relevant to my question:
Still, this person was guessing. If nobody has tried the actual case with a T400 9-cell, then I'm willing to go by his prediction. However, in the case that it is in fact "very tight" fitting the two together, would it be alright to move up to the 15" Shinza case? Or would this introduce too much wiggle-room?

So what case did you get for ur T500 w/ 9-cell? Do you need to get a 17 inch case for it or will a 15" work with a W500 w/ 9-cell

As a Canadian who can't get a Shinza sleeve without paying almost twice the price because of shipping, I've been looking for an alternative to the Zeroshock III 14". As far as shipping from Shinza goes, I might as well live in Madagascar!

Today, I came across the Sumdex Impactguard, which I can get in Canada. Strangely, the Canadian site lists different measurements from eBags (which also won't ship here for a reasonable price). On the ghetto Canadian shop, the internal measurements are listed as 13.75" x 11.25" x 2", while on eBags, it's supposed to only fit a laptop measuring 14.25" x 10" x 1.25". My T400 with 9-cell is just under 11" deep, which works with the Canadian store's measurement but not the one listed on eBags. Argh!

Has anyone got any experience with the Impactguard and a T400/9-cell? Has anyone else who lives in Canada gotten hold of a Shinza sleeve for a reasonable price? Can anyone suggest a similar alternative?

    Thanks!

    Isaac

I decided against the Shinza sleeve in the end. Instead, I got a laptop sleeve from WaterField Designs. You can customize the size (as well as other aspects of it) to fit your laptop perfectly, regardless of what size battery you'll be using. It's a little more expensive than the average case, but well worth it in my opinion. I've been using it with my T400 for about a month and perfectly happy with it. I had also previously used one for my 17" HP laptop.

    Here's a link.
